CARYVILLE—The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is investigating after the body of a 50-year-old Ohio man was recovered from Cove Lake early Thursday morning.
According to Campbell County Wildlife Officer Ken Cutsinger, James Hamblin, 50, of Hamilton, Ohio, had been fishing on the lake with Bill Roddy, of LaFollette, when they both fell overboard from their jon boat about 9 a.m.
Cutsinger indicated the pair had rented the boat from Cove Lake State Park. Hamblin was reportedly standing up, causing the boat to capsize.
Roddy was able to safely swim back to the boat, according to reports from Cutsinger.
He reportedly paddled the boat to the road, where he flagged down a passing motorist who called for help.
A diver from the LaFollette Rescue Squad recovered Hamblin’s body about an hour later.
The vessel was equipped with life-jackets, however neither occupant was wearing one, according to Cutsinger.
An autopsy has been requested.
