A LaFollette man started the new year on the wrong side of the law.

LaFollette Police Officer Rick Ford was called to a West Ash Street residence on New Year’s Day to investigate calls to 911.

According to Ford’s report Matthew Wayne Ayers, 18, of 1101 Ash Street had placed several non-emergency calls to 911.

Arrest records indicate during an interview Ayers allegedly appeared to be “very unstable on his feet” and smelled of an alcoholic beverage.

Ayers was arrested and charged with public intoxication, underage consumption and prohibited 911 calls. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23.
