A small office space is all the Catholic Charities Pregnancy Center of Campbell

County needs to make a big difference for mothers.

The walls of the office and counseling area are painted a soft green; all the storage space is filled with necessities for pregnant women and new mothers.

The grand opening of the center was a slow day on Monday, but the staff is confident a need exists in Campbell County.

In a dressing room hangs a variety of garments for those expecting, such as shirts, pants and dresses. In another room shelves are stacked high with diapers, wipes, bottles, receiving blankets and baby clothes divided by size.

“Those who come here pregnant are given enough items to bring the baby home from the hospital,” said Director Jeanne Smith.

However, the service provided by the center is not only material.

Smith explained there is counseling services provided to young mothers considering abortion and referrals to other help centers in the area for any additional needs.

The center can provide parenting classes and confidential pregnancy testing as well.

Smith said a male mentoring program would be available in the future.

“We can help till they no longer need us,” said Smith.

Smith explained the services available at the pregnancy center are not just for high school aged girls, but are available for everyone.

“We won’t turn anyone away,” said Smith.

An open house will be held at a later date for the community to come and view the center, seeing what it offers.

Located at the West LaFollette School, the pregnancy center is in the back of the building. Signs will lead the way to the center’s office.

The center is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center will not be open this Friday in observance of Good Friday.
