Press football contest ends

The 2nd annual Wilder’s Winners football contest concluded last week in the LaFollette Press sports section. Kenny “Bucket” Daugherty earned bragging rights for the second consecutive year for having the best won/loss record (72-28) on the panel of 10 experts. 

However, he had to share the top spot this year with DeWayne “The Mail Man” Kitts, who finished fourth last year.

Rounding out the panel was Jason Davis, sports editor of The Mountain Press (Sevierville), in 3rd place with a 71-29 record, WLAF’s own Jim Freeman in 4th place with a 70-30 worksheet, Shawn McCreary of the LaFollette Press in 5th place with a 69-31 record, Johnny Byrge of the LaFollette Parks and Recreation Dept. and WTNQ football announcer Josh Parker tied for 6th place with  identical 68-32 marks, and  Campbell County commisioner Johnny Bruce in 8th place with a 66-34 record.

Two panelists shared the distinction of having the worst record (63-37) -— David Graham of the Channel 12 Sports Report and your’s truly.

Throughout the 10-week contest, readers of the LaFollette Press had a chance to beat the panelists at their own game and win a gift card valued at $25. Kim Leach of Knoxville was the week 10 winner with a 9-1 record.
