Less than $20 in stolen merchandise proved to be worth a trip to jail for a LaFollette man.

When Jacksboro Police Officer Josh Carroll responded to the report of a shoplifter at Walmart last Thursday he was informed by store employees that Joel E. Corner, 34, of 910 Rose Hill Drive, left the business with $13.97 in merchandise.

During the course of the investigation Corner was discovered to allegedly have a syringe inside his shoe, the report said. Records indicate the defendant also had 14 round blue pills believed to be schedule II substances as well as one pill supposed to be a schedule IV substance. In addition, Corner also allegedly had $552 in cash in his wallet, the JPD report said.

Corner was arrested and charged with theft under $500, possession of a schedule II substance for resale, possession of a schedule IV substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 10.
