After the grand jury convened on Monday, Jerry Phillips was indicted for six counts of aggravated sexual battery.
The indictment came almost two years after the allegations were initially levied.
In 2007, Phillips was accused of molesting a then 7 –year- old girl who was a relative of his girlfriend at the time, LaFollette Police Detective Sgt. Jason Henegar said following the arrest.
But when the child was interviewed during that investigation, she didn’t disclose the exact nature of the alleged abuse, Henegar said.
As time passed, custody of the girl was transferred to another relative who moved later from Tennessee.
But, in recent months, the child began to disclose the nature of what Phillips had allegedly done, Henegar said.
“It (the sexual abuse) happened multiple times during the time span the girl was living with her relative in 2007,” Henegar said it was discovered during the course of the recent investigation.
