A son and mother who allegedly took a teenager from her Indiana home earlier this month, pleaded not guilty Monday to aggravated statutory rape charges.

James Slagle was arrested March 6 at the South 17th Street home where he lived with his mother, Debra Saunders, after police learned a 17-year-old female from Indiana was at the residence, according to the police report.

Slagle and Saunders allegedly traveled to Osceola, Ind. earlier this month and took the girl from her home without her parents’ knowledge, court records indicate. Once in LaFollette, Slagle allegedly had sex with the girl on multiple occasions, the arrest warrant said. The victim told police Slagle knew her age at the time he took her from her home.

Last Wednesday, Saunders was arrested at her residence as well. Her arrest followed an indictment by the grand jury.

After pleading not guilty, the pair was given a new court date of April 15 in Campbell County Criminal Court. Both are held in the county jail on $15,000 bonds.
