Be Not Conformed, Be Transformed
I love the scriptures that make some things so plain, consider Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
God’s mercy is compassionate, we no longer bring an animal for sacrifice; we give our mind, our body as a sacrifice to God.
Verse 2, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable, and perfect will of God.”
We are not to act like the world or follow after styles or actions that put us, who profess to know Christ, in an unfavorable light. When we are transformed, as Paul wrote to the Romans, it changes our appearance and our character.
Verses 3-8 concerns the Body of Christ and spiritual gifts, read it in its entirety.
Verse 9, “Let love be without dissolution, abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.”
Dissimulation is a result of deceiving, we are to be real in our show of love. If a person isn’t sincere, it doesn’t take long for the truth to be revealed. To use a little humor here, you could say it would be a self inflicted wound.
The word abhor here means to hate, we must hate evil.
Cleave means to stick to, stay focused on that which is good. You cannot check out things that are not good for you, and think it won’t harm you. If can rob you of your Salvation.
Verses 10-15, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; distributing to the necessity of the saints; given to hospitality.
Bless them which persecute you: bless and curse not.
Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
Verse 16, “Be of the same mind one toward another, mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate: Be not wise in your own conceits.”
Being of same mind. I love harmony. I love the things that can be accomplished when we are of one mind and one accord.
How many do we see that are always ambitious to become rich and powerful?
If anyone acts unlawful to reach their goals, whatever rules they broke, or the people they stepped on to get there – will bring them down. Understand, I said if they break laws to get there. On the other hand think of what can be accomplished if we seek to do God’s will.
Verse 17 and 18 gives some very good commands for Christian living.
“Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as birth in you, live peaceably with all men.”
What a thought, we’re to be honest in the sight of all men; we’re to live peaceably with all men. We are responsible for how we live before others, if we live obedient we can win others, if we deceive, we confuse others.
