Light-Darkness? Darkness-Light? Pearl Harper There are so many unexplained things going on in our world today. Things that were once wrong and absolutely not allowed in our society are now permitted with relatively no bounds or at least none that are enforced. With so many rewritten laws it seems the thief, murderers or violators or laws, have more rights than the victim. Does it seem to you that almost every commercial pushes sex more than the product? A commercial is something designed for profit and tries to reach the masses. What reaches the masses, the product or the sexuality content? There are many good, honest, decent people in our society. But, I have never in my lifetime seen so much evil and corruption come to light. There are some scriptures that come to my mind lately that fits many things in our day. And, a word that fits our day, apostasy. It means abandonment of a former loyalty, turning away from; in the Bible it means falling away from God’s truth. Isaiah 5:20-21, makes it very clear “Woe to them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter. Woe to them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight.” For many years these scriptures have seem to fit our society. I have written before how other countries said America was great, because America was good. Do we seem to be losing that status, when we see so much corruption come to light? When we wonder how people can do some things and see no wrong in them, they have no sense of consciousness or right or wrong. Everything they feel like doing is right in their own eyes. They love darkness more than light. One person said, “Of all the deceived people, those who are wise in their own eyes, and think themselves to be something when they are nothing are the worst.” In the New Testament Jesus commanded “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) Jesus said in John 3:19, “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” Read Acts 5:8-14, we are told that we are the light in the Lord: walk as children of light: to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness. There is a good-life lesson in reaping and sowing. If we sow sparingly we will reap sparingly (2 Corinthians 9:6). If we sow evil, we reap evil. If we sow good, we reap good. If we love darknesss, what a horrible thing to think of being cast into outer darkness. (Matthew 8:12) Consider Psalms 119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto path.” I believe if we love God and desire to live pleasing to Him, He will shine the light on our path-on the path we are to take. To be patient, kind, courteous not be selfish, show humility, not conceited, even tempered-letting our light shine. God Bless.
