Preparing Today for Tomorrow

I believe there are many people who love God and think about turning to Him but keep putting it off. That is not a good decision. There used to be signs at different locations across out eastern states, most often it was a cross, it read, “Be Prepared.”

That is still good advice for us today. I had one person to tell me years ago that when they became old and sick they would turn to God. I was a young Christian at the time but I knew that didn’t make any sense. There was no sound reasoning there.

Jesus made it plain in Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

We are not told to not prepare for the future but we are not to worry about it, Jesus also gives us a heads up in verses 19-21 “to not lay up treasures on earth which moths and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal. But lay up treasures in heaven, whether neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves neither break in and steal. For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.”

James gave some good advice in James 4:13-15, “Come now ye who say, today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell and make a profit. Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

Instead you ought to pay, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”

We would really save a lot of steps and not have to come back from the wrong paths we chose, if we asked for His will to be done in our life.

Getting back to accepting Jesus into your heart and life- if you feel the desire to accept Christ it means He is knocking at your heart’s door. Did you ever see the picture of Jesus standing at the door of a home knocking on the door? There is not a door knob on the outside. The door has to be opened from the inside. That’s the secret, he knocks, we open. Jesus said in Revelation 3:20, “Behold I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear my voice and open the door I will come in to him and will sup with him, and he with me.”

When I think of the word sup, I first think of supper, the evening meal, then I think of supplying. Whatever we need when we ask he supply’s. Notice I said “need” not “want.”

The first thing a young Christian should do is to start studying the word. Set aside a time of the day, preferably in the morning, to read and study Gods word and pray.

Pslam 119:11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” There is a great lesson here, the more we read the word and trust him, the more we grow. It is not an overnight journey, it is a continuing journey.”

The more dedicated we become the more our enemy will show his old evil self. But the more we trust in Jesus, the easier the battles become.

No matter what our age we cannot change yesterday, we don’t know what tomorrow holds but we can live for today and know who holds the future.

God bless.
