Campbell County is waging war on drugs
There is something so real going on in our nation, our world and our own beloved Campbell County. There has always been a war concerning the devil, warring for the souls of men.
In case you haven’t been paying attention it has escalated.
Over the past 50 years it has quickly become larger and spreading and becoming more of a threat everyday. Drugs!
Before drugs became so widespread there was alcohol. I am not mentioning alcohol only because of it’s dangerous aspects. I have seen the disastrous results it has brought to families- broken homes, lives lost because of someone driving while drunk, the list goes on. I could write an entire article telling of the destruction I have personally seen in my lifetime. I can find nothing good to write about alcohol.
We moved to LaFollette in 1964. We loved the people, our church; we have called it home ever since.
We have wonderful memories of time spent with many families and friends and thank God we are still making them. I worked downtown at Shelby’s Grocery off and on for several years and I worked at Smith Hardware some. I have always loved people and meeting the public. Especially the seniors of which I am now one. I have shared this story before.
In the early 1970s something different started happening in our town.
If it had been here before it wasn’t so prevalent or widespread – marijuana, pot, loco-weed is my favorite name for it. What it caused in our Campbell County was a gateway to what we are seeing now.
My heart went out to the youth. It didn’t take long to find out if someone you knew was experimenting. As the years passed some of the people I knew were using marijuana would come into the places I worked.
They were pitiful. First, they can usually lie fluently, and they think you can’t tell they are lying. That is so sad. And always their aliment such as a bad back or misfortune is someone’s else’s fault. Always blaming someone or something for their predicaments or difficult situation. Now we see people controlled by pills and meth.
In 2011 the drugs are more deadly but they stem from trying seemingly less harmful things.
There is a war for man’s soul and it would seen sometime that Satan has an edge but he doesn’t if we will look to God in prayers for our nation and out county. Satan uses the method in which man sins (whatever your sin is) to damn his soul. He uses different plans and schemes to deceive, entrap, enslave, and ruin the souls of men.
Eph. 6:11-12 says it is so important for us to know and tell others how real our fight is, put on the whole armor of God, the ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (verses 13-18) It describes the rest of the armor out protection, read it.
We can find great hope in II Chron. 7:14, “If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
We have so many stories and example’s in the Bible how when God’s people sought Him wholeheartedly, he turned this around.
Many have started coming together to pray for our country and to wage war against drugs.
Thank God for the hope we can find through prayer.
