SPORTS CAMP AND EVENT SCHEDULE

Relay for Life benefit basketball games will be held Friday, June 1 at the LaFollette Recreation Center. Games will be played at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. The 7 p.m. game will feature the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department vs the Rescue Squad. Admission is $5. Concessions will be sold. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

Campbell County Youth Football and Cheerleading will be having a final day of sign-ups on Saturday, June 2 at West LaFollette School. Sign-up hours are 1-4 p.m. The fee for football players is $55. The fee for cheerleaders is $60. The age range is 5 thru 12 for football players and 4 thru 13 for cheerleaders. Girls signing up for cheerleader will be fitted for a uniform that day. All new and returning football players must provide a birth certificate and a recent picture. Jacksboro Middle School Lady Eagles’ basketball tryouts for the 2012-13 season will be on Friday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This will be the only posted tryout. Tryouts for the 2012-13 LaFollette Middle School girls’ basketball team will be held June 1 from 9-11 a.m. Any girl interested in playing basketball next year at LMS must attend this tryout session, as there will be none in the fall. There will be a mandatory meeting, immediately following tryouts, for parents of players that make the team. At least one parent must be present for the meeting. Please bring a copy of the playerís insurance card.

Campbell County Youth Baseball and Softball will host an all-you-can-eat fundraiser breakfast on Saturday, June 2 from 7-9:30 a.m. in the cafeteria of the old West LaFollette School. Tickets are $5 at the door. The menu will include biscuits, gravy, eggs, etc.

The Cougar Youth Football Camp for boys ages 6-15 is scheduled for June 11-12 at Campbell County High School from 6-9 p.m. Coach Justin Price and the CCHS football staff will present the camp, which is designed to give athletes of all ages the basic fundamentals of football in a fun, positive environment. Although this is a non-contact camp, participants will learn the safe and proper ways to pass, catch, block and tackle. Also, campers will learn quickness and speed drills that can be helpful, not only on the gridiron but on all athletic fields or courts. The registration fee is $30, which includes a t-shirt. The Knoxville Track Club is hosting its annual summer track and field program for East Tennessee young people. From May 29 through June 23, the Knoxville Youth Athletics Program exposes kids to the fundamentals of track and field. The program is open to all girls and boys between the ages of 5 and 18. Practices are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at more than 23 schools. The program will also offer four consecutive Saturday track meets — June 4, 11, 18 and 25 — at UT’s Tom Black Track. During the meets, young people from all locations will compete in events such as the 50-meter dash, discus throw, relays and high jump. Participants can register online or on site at any practice location. Registration is $40 per participant (maximum of $95 per family), which includes a t-shirt. The annual Cove Lake 5K race is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at Cove Lake State Park. Registration fee is $20 if pre-registered by Friday, June 8 and $25 if registering the day of the race. Awards will be given to the top three finishers and top three teams as well as the top three finishers in several age divisions.
