Youth basketball coaches meeting

A youth basketball coaches meeting will be held tonight, Thursday Oct. 25 at the LaFollette Community Center, which is the old West LaFollette School. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in coaching should attend this meeting. A background check for coaching will be required. For more information, contact the recreation department at 562-9424.

 

Playoff Madness

The Jacksboro Eagles will host the LaFollette Owls in the second round of the middle school playoffs tonight, Thursday Oct. 25. The game is slated for 7 p.m., and the loser is eliminated from the 2012 playoffs.

 

Campbell County Senior Day

Campbell County High School will host a football senior day on Oct. 26. The seniors on the Cougars squad will be honored in the game on Friday night.

 

CORA Barbeque

The Campbell Outdoor Recreation Association (CORA) is hosting its annual appreciation barbeque on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Cove Lake State Park. The event will be in shelter number five from 12 until 1:30. Tickets are available at the door, with drawings for prizes and gun tickets being sold as well. Youth Basketball Signups

Signups will be held Saturday Oct. 27 in Gym One, which is located below the new library. Signups will be from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for boys and girls ages 5 thru 15. Deadline to register is Saturday, Nov. 3. Player fee is $20, and each player is required to bring a copy of their birth certificate. Cougar Craziness

The Campbell County basketball teams will celebrate the beginning of a new basketball season for the Cougars and Lady Cougars. It will begin on Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. at Campbell County High School. An alumni game will begin before the Campbell County teams take the court. Participants in that game will have a $20 fee to play, which will include a shirt and picture of the participants. The events will include a boys’ and girls’ three-point contest, a hot shot contest, as well as half scrimmages for both the Cougars and Lady Cougars. The Jacksboro and LaFollette middle school teams will be introduced, as well as their cheerleaders. Both squads of Jacksboro, Caryville, Valley View, and LaFollette elementary schools will be introduced as well. Coon Hunting Tournament

A Coon Hunting Tournament will be held every Saturday night beginning Sept. 22 until Feb. 23, 2013. The tournament will run from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m. For more information, contact 437-7651.

Young Sportsman Hunt

The TWRA Young Sportsman Hunt is set to be Oct. 27-28. Youth, ages 6-16 are the only year ages allowed to hunt on these days. Each young sportsman must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, 21 years of age or older, who must remain in a position to take immediate control of the hunting device and who must also comply with fluorescent orange regulations, as specified for legal hunters. Multiple youths may be accompanied by a single qualifying adult, as youths 10 years of age or older must meet Hunter Education requirements. Young sportsman hunters may only take one (1) deer during this two day period.

 

Turkey Shoot

The Briceville Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a turkey shoot every Saturday at 5 p.m. The location of the shoot is Bill Black Lane at Briceville Highway. Stock 12, 16, 20 gauge and .410 barrel are the only guns allowed. Shells will be provided. Concessions will be available, and prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded for every round. Squirrel Season Open

Tennessee’s hunting season for gray, fox and red squirrels opened Aug. 25. The season will continue through Feb. 29, 2013 with a bag limit of 10 squirrels per day. For more information on Tennessee hunting seasons, pick up a 2012 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide, available at all TWRA Regional Offices and at all hunting license agents. Archery Season

Archery season began Saturday, Sept. 22 and will run until Oct. 26. Archery season does include crossbows. With a bag limit of four antlerless deer (defined as deer with no antlers or antlers less than three inches long) may be taken during this time. Throughout the entire hunting season, which includes muzzleloader and rifle, a hunter may only take three antlered deer. Only one antlered deer may be taken in a single day.
