Jacksboro Middle School Basketball
The Jacksboro basketball teams will take on Lake City at JMS tonight, Thursday Nov. 15. The junior varsity girls will tipoff at 5 p.m., as the varsity teams will follow. On Monday, Nov. 19, the Eagles and Lady Eagles will travel to Maynardville to take on Horace Maynard, as the junior varsity boys will tipoff at 5 p.m. Both junior varsity squads will travel to LaFollette on Nov. 20 to take on the Owls.
LaFollette Middle School Basketball
The LaFollette basketball teams will take on Horace Maynard at home tonight, Thursday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. On Monday, Nov. 19, the Owls and Lady Owls will travel to Jefferson. The junior varsity boys will tipoff at 5 p.m., as the varsity squads will follow. On Tuesday, Nov. 20, the junior varsity teams from Jacksboro will travel to LaFollette to take on the Owls. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m.
Campbell County Basketball
The Campbell County High School basketball teams will face off with Sevier County High School on John R. W. Brown Court on Friday night, Nov. 16. The teams will tipoff at 6 p.m. This week, the Cougar squad will also participate in the PrepXtra Classic at Fulton High School. On Tuesday, Nov. 20, the boys will take on Knoxville-West at 6 p.m., before taking on Fulton on Nov. 21. Tipoff for the Falcon game will be 6 p.m.
The Jellico High School basketball teams will face off with Grace Baptist Academy on Friday night at Jellico High School. Tipoff for the varsity boys and girls is set for 6 p.m. The Blue Devil teams will travel to Oakdale on Tuesday, Nov. 20 as tipoff for that matchup is set for 6:30 p.m.
Muzzleloader and Archery Season
Muzzleloader season will end tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 16. Archery may also be used during this time. The bag limit on deer during this season is one antlerless deer. A limit of three antlered deer (defined as deer with antlers longer than three inches) may be taken during the entire 2012-13 season. Only one antlered deer may be taken in a single day.
The annual gun season is set for Nov. 17, and it will run through Jan 6, 2013. This is the second year of a continual season. Archery and muzzleloader may also be used during this time. Only one antlerless deer may be taken during this period on the non-quota hunts, which will be Dec. 17-23 for Campbell County. A Type 94 permit is required to harvest antlerless deer during this season on all non-quota hunts, except for holders of an Annual Sportsman, Lifetime Sportsman, or Senior Citizen License Type 167 Permit. High School Soccer Interest Meeting
Campbell County High School hopes to have a soccer team next season. An interest meeting for students grade seventh through 11th will be held Nov. 19 at the old West LaFollette Elementary School. This is just the first step, which is to show the county enough kids are interested in trying out for the team. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. For more information, call Bryan Horton at 494-6569.
Young Sportsman Hunt
The TWRA Young Sportsman Hunt is set to be Jan. 12-13. Youth, ages 6-16 are the only year ages allowed to hunt on these days. Each young sportsman must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, 21 years of age or older, who must remain in a position to take immediate control of the hunting device and who must also comply with fluorescent orange regulations, as specified for legal hunters. Multiple youths may be accompanied by a single qualifying adult, as youths 10 years of age or older must meet Hunter Education requirements. Young sportsman hunters may take one deer during this two day period.
Coon Hunting Tournament
A Coon Hunting Tournament will be held every Saturday night until Feb. 23, 2013. The tournament will run from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m. For more information, contact 437-7651.
The Briceville Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a turkey shoot every Saturday at 5 p.m. The location of the shoot is Bill Black Lane at Briceville Highway. Stock 12, 16, 20 gauge and .410 barrel are the only guns allowed. Shells will be provided. Concessions will be available, and prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded for every round. Squirrel Season Open
Tennessee’s hunting season for gray, fox and red squirrels opened Aug. 25. The season will continue through Feb. 29, 2013 with a bag limit of 10 squirrels per day.
