LaFollette Middle School Basketball

The LaFollette basketball teams will take on Robertsville tonight, Thursday Nov. 29 at home. The junior varsity boys are set to tipoff at 5 p.m., with the varsity squads to follow. The Owls also have a game on Monday, Nov. 3 as Oneida travels to LaFollette. Junior varsity girls will tipoff at 5 p.m., with the varsity squads following.


Jellico Basketball

The Jellico High School basketball teams will take on Coalfield on Friday, Nov. 30 at Jellico. Both varsity squads will be in action, as they are set to tipoff at 6:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Wartburg will visit the Blue Devils. Junior varsity girls are set for 5 p.m., as the varsity squads will follow.


Campbell County Basketball

The Campbell County High School girl’s varsity team will travel to McCreary Co., KY to take on Monticello on Dec. 1. Tipoff for the game is set for 2:30 p.m. Both varsity squads will travel to Powell  for a District 3-AAA matchup on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Junior varsity girls are set to tipoff at 4:30, as the varsity squads will follow


Jacksboro Middle School Basketball

The Jacksboro basketball teams will travel to Robertsville on Monday, Dec. 3 to take one of the district favorites. On Tuesday night, the Eagles will also travel to Lake City for a rematch of their Nov. 15 contest. In both games, the junior varsity boys will tipoff at 5 p.m., as both varsity squads will follow.


Gun Season

The annual gun season began on Nov. 17, and it will run through Jan 6, 2013. This is the second year of a continual season. Archery and muzzleloader may also be used during this time. Only one antlerless deer may be taken during this period on the non-quota hunts, which will be Dec. 17-23 for Campbell County. A Type 94 permit is required to harvest antlerless deer during this season on all non-quota hunts, except for holders of an Annual Sportsman, Lifetime Sportsman, or Senior Citizen License Type 167 Permit. A limit of three antlered deer (defined as deer with antlers longer than three inches) may be taken during the entire 2012-13 season. Only one antlered deer may be taken in a single day.


Young Sportsman Hunt

The TWRA Young Sportsman Hunt is set to be Jan. 12-13. Youth, ages 6-16 are the only year ages allowed to hunt on these days. Each young sportsman must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, 21 years of age or older, who must remain in a position to take immediate control of the hunting device and who must also comply with fluorescent orange regulations, as specified for legal hunters. Multiple youths may be accompanied by a single qualifying adult, as youths 10 years of age or older must meet Hunter Education requirements. Young sportsman hunters may take one deer during this two day period.


Coon Hunting Tournament

A Coon Hunting Tournament will be held every Saturday night until Feb. 23, 2013. The tournament will run from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m. For more information, contact 437-7651.


Turkey Shoot

The Briceville Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a turkey shoot every Saturday at 5 p.m. The location of the shoot is Bill Black Lane at Briceville Highway. Stock 12, 16, 20 gauge and .410 barrel are the only guns allowed. Shells will be provided. Concessions will be available, and prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded for every round. Squirrel Season Open

Tennessee’s hunting season for gray, fox and red squirrels opened Aug. 25. The season will continue through Feb. 29, 2013 with a bag limit of 10 squirrels per day.
