Brick Plant Church of God in Jellico will host the 2nd annual 5K Fellowship Run/Walk on Saturday, May 21 beginning at 8 a.m. Please come early if planning to register the day of the race. Registration fee is $15 for adults and $10 for anyone 12-and-under. As this is a fundraiser for the church, there will be no cash awards. However, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals will be presented in seven divisions (male and female). There will also be lots of nice door prizes given away. A men’s 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held on Saturday, May 21 at Wynn Elementary School. The gym will open at 8 a.m. Play will begin at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $40 per team. The Jacksboro Middle School Lady Eagles will host their annual basketball camp May 24-27 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The registration fee is $50 and includes a free t-shirt. The camp is open to girls entering grades 3-8. The Galilee Bible Camp Outdoor Adventure is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, beginning with breakfast at 8 a.m. A 3D archery competition will be held at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon. Afterward, participants will view an outdoor video. A trap shoot will begin at 2 p.m., followed by awards and closing at 4:30 p.m. There will be a youth and adult class for each event. Registration fee is $20 for adults and $10 for youths. All youths must be accompanied by an adult. Registration forms are available at the front desk of the LaFollette Press or by calling 423-562-4910. This promises to be a fun-filled event for everyone: men, women and youths.
A benefit basketball tournament for Talan Hooks will be held on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at Valley View Elementary School. Talan is a 2-year-old boy who, earlier this year, was diagnosed with Leukoencephalopathy, a disease that occurs primarily in the white matter of the brain. Symptoms include problems with speech, vision, loss of mental function, loss of coordination, extreme weakness and fatigue. Tournament proceeds will help fund Talan’s medical expenses. The Campbell County Sheriff’s Department and LaFollette Police Department will have teams participating in the tournament.
A tryout day for the Lady Owls’ 2011-12 middle school basketball team will be held on May 27 from 3-5 p.m. Anyone interested in playing basketball next season must attend this tryout, as there will be none during the fall. There will be a mandatory meeting on May 27, immediately following tryouts, for parents of any player that makes the team. At least one parent has to be present at the meeting.
Braden’s Chapel Baptist Church will host its 3rd annual basketball camp for kindergarten through 8th graders from Tuesday, May 31-Friday, June 3 at Valley View Elementary School. The inaugural Officer Greg Cox Campbell County Cancer Association Benefit Softball Tournament will be held June 17-18 at Asbury Park in Caryville. On June 17, games will start at 6:30 p.m. On June 18, tournament play will begin at 9 a.m. Entry fee per team is $150. The tournament format will be double elimination. All proceeds will go to Officer Greg Cox’s family and to the Campbell County Cancer Association. The benefit will be hosted by the Jacksboro Police Department. The Campbell County/LMU Soccer Camp will be held June 20-24 at the LaFollette Elementary School soccer fields. Camp hours will be 9 a.m.-noon. Lunch will be provided.
