CAMPBELL COUNTY—Community Health of East Tennessee has devoted two staff people — one full-time and the other part-time — to help folks sign up for health insurance through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Sandy Webber of CHET said approximately 50 to 60 people have been able to sign up so far at the offices at 130 Independence Lane in LaFollette. Sign-ups began Oct. 1.

“It was a little slow in the beginning, but it’s beginning to pick up,” said Webber.

The deadline to sign up for January coverage is Dec. 23. Prospective insurees have until the end of March to sign up for coverage through 2014.

Webber said she is seeing a mix of young and older adults who want to sign up for the program. Sign-ups can be done by computer, paper application or by telephone.

For more information, call Webber or Lee Ann Copeland at 423-562-1705. CHET office hours are 8 a.m to 4:30 p.m.

A meeting has been scheduled for Dec. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Campbell County Courthouse for the public to learn more about signing up for the Affordable Care Act.
