Campbell County High School junior Lindsay Taylor competed in the Class AAA state golf tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 25-26 in Manchester.
The Willowbrook Golf Course wasn’t kind to Taylor on the first day of competition, as Barren’s Triangle got the best of the first-time state golfer. Taylor finished the day with an 18-over-par 90.
On Tuesday, however, she bounced back, combining her two-day total for an overall 179 score. That score was good enough for 35th place out of the 56 competitors.
For Wednesday, Taylor shot an 89, improving her score on six of the holes, while matching her day one total on seven. For the front nine, she bettered four of the nine holes on her day one score.
Samantha Gotcher of Clarksville took the top spot, shooting a two-day total of 141. Abbie Gregory of Beech shot a 144, while Teleri Hughes of Farragut posted a 148 to round out the top three. Whitney Robertson of Clarksville took fourth with a 153.
Of the top four, all were seniors. As Taylor is just a junior, she has a chance to move her rankings up, as she already sits as one of the top golfers in Tennessee. Next season, with Hughes leaving for Division I, Taylor will set as the top golfer in Region 2-AAA.
