The Campbell County High School volleyball team dropped district matches Tuesday to Anderson County and Knox Halls.

During the last match of the day, the host Lady Cougars played Anderson County tough before bowing 12-25, 14-25 and 17-25 in the best  three out of five series. Anderson County is just two years removed from a runner-up finish at the state tournament.

“We played hard, we just have a tough time closing out,” said Campbell County coach David Seals.

“(AC is) the number two team in our region, and the last two games we played them very well. Our serves kind of failed us, at times, but we’re working hard and getting better at that.”

Campbell County players donated the gate receipts from Tuesday’s matches to help pay the medical expenses of local leukemia patient Terrie Combs.

“This is something the girls came up with on their own,” said Seals.

“Whenever you get teenagers thinking about something other than themselves, that’s a good thing.”
