A traffic accident at the intersection of West Central Avenue and Jacksboro Pike left one man dead last Wednesday.
According to a press released issued by the LaFollette Police Department, Robert Sheets was traveling east on West Central Avenue when he pulled out from a stop sign into oncoming traffic and was struck by another vehicle.
Evidence of alcohol consumption inside Sheets’ vehicle by the officer investigating the accident and he was not wearing a seatbelt, LPD reports said.
Records indicate Sheets was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s of Campbell County before being transferred to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was wearing a seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries.
LPD Chief James Lynch said the investigation is ongoing.
“We are still waiting for information as to whether the victim was intoxicated at the time of the accident and the incident is still under investigation,” Lynch said.
