    A ladies Bible study on the new Beth Moore study, Esther, will begin this week. The study will be offered on Thursday evenings starting Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. and on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. starting Jan.13. The group will meet in the church library at Cedar Hill Baptist Church. Workbooks will be $14.95. For more information or to pre-register, please call Brenda Bennett at 562-4910.

    Lick Creek Holiness Church will host a benefit singing on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. Singers will be the Reepers and Hanging Rock Singers.

    See the Need Outreach Mission will not be open this week to distribute food. It will be open next Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

    Effective Jan.12 the LaFollette Municipal Building’s office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office will not be closed during lunch.

    The Campbell County Historical Society will meet Jan.15, at 7 p.m. at the Historic Wedding Chapel. Guest speakers will be Trulene Nash and Jocelyn Griffo who will be discussing Post Office Art and Artists during the depression.

    The Jellico City Council will meet on Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

  • Church news for the week of 12-18-08

    The Long Hollow Baptist Church will present its annual Christmas play on Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The children’s play is entitled An Old Fashioned Christmas. The adults will present a play entitled Love So Amazing.

    New Canaan Church in Elk Valley presents He Shall Be Called Wonderful, including a choir medley, children's program, and a musical span of Jesus’ Life on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.

    Macedonia Baptist Church will be presenting The Christmas Guest on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.

    Jellico City Council will meet Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m.

    Community Health, formerly REACHS, Clothes Closet will be open on Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. until 2p.m.

    The Senior Citizens Center will host its Christmas covered dish party on Dec. 20.

    The Historic Speedwell Academy will host an old fashioned Christmas open house on Dec. 20 and 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. Free hot apple cider, hot chocolate and cookies will be served. There is no charge for admission. For directions or information call 566-4533.

    New Horizon Baptist Church will host a special Candlelight Service to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, Christmas Eve night at 6 p.m.  Call 563-0030 for more information.

    Shori Community Candle Light Service will be held Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Caryville First Baptist Church.

    The LaFollette United Methodist Church will have a Christmas Eve service of candlelight, carols, and Communion on Wednesday at 11 p.m.

  • News notes for the week of 12-24-08

    The LaFollette Street and Sanitation Departments will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25 in observance of Christmas. However, the Sanitation Department will be picking up garbage on Dec. 24. Thursday’s garbage will be picked up on Dec. 26.

    The Jellico Police Department will be conducting safety checkpoints beginning Dec. 31 thru Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in any of the following areas: North Main Street, South Main Street, Walker Road, London Avenue, Creekmore/Housley Road, Sunset Trail, Fifth Street and Indian Mountain Road.

  • Blood drive for Jacksboro man

    The Herman Bailey family has requested a blood drive on his behalf and they have appealing to the community for help.

    According to Bailey’s daughter, Christy, he started hemorrhaging severely last Saturday.

    “He’s having a lower GI bleed, but the doctor’s are not sure if it’s from a tear in his colon or his intestine,” said his daughter.

    According to the Bailey family, Herman Bailey is receiving massive blood transfusions at St. Mary’s North, but is continuing bleeding it out.
