    Board members are down to their short list for Campbell County’s next director of schools.

  • Head Start announces enrollment

    Since 1965 Head Start has been preparing children for school. Four centers in Campbell County will be accepting applications for the upcoming school year.

    Children three-years-old by September can join the head start program. Additional criteria are reviewed said Faye Walden, family service worker for West LaFollette Head Start. The federally funded program provides free early childhood education to pre-school age students.

    Income and number of people in the household are among the criteria, said Walden.

  • Icicles lined the halls at Jacksboro Middle

    Suspense had been building for students at Jacksboro Middle School. They anticipated snowfall last week. Daily announcements told students to dress warmly on Oct. 7 because it was going to be cold.

    And it was cold as faculty and staff turned down their thermostats for the secret snow day in connection with Read for the Record, a national campaign to promote reading.

  • Board green lights teacher raises; money yet to be designated

    It may have been the last meeting for four school board members, but that didn’t stop the group from carrying on with business as usual.
    When an agenda item dealing with raises for all certified employees came up for discussion outgoing board member Mark A. Wells wasted no time in making a motion in favor of the action.
