Siler racks up narcotics charges

Reports of a domestic assault led to new narcotics charges for Jenny Siler.

Siler currently has a case in front of the state appellate court. In the appeal she has asked the justices to overturn a jail sentence given to her for narcotics possession, which she pled guilty to.

But on Sunday she acquired similar charges when LaFollette Police Officers William Owens and Rick Ford responded to a domestic situation in the parking lot of a local gas station.

LaFollette Fire Department personnel notified officers a man was assaulting a woman near the IGA grocery store.

Caryville condsiders its options

Budget and revenue problems continued to top the agenda at Monday night’s Caryville Mayor and Aldermen meeting.

Starting July 1, Caryville town employees will begin paying 10-percent of their health insurance premiums, according to an ordinance amendment discussed and passed by the mayor and board during the meeting.

Campbell Cancer Association to hold auction

In an effort to raise funds for local residents suffering from Cancer, the Campbell County Cancer Association is hosting an auction and raffle this Saturday from 9 a.m to 1 p.m at Hazel’s Hair Styles.

Co-organized by Jan Jones, Hazel Burchfield and Clarence Lowe, the event is in its fifth year and plays an important role in aiding those affected by cancer in the area.

Extreme makeover mission comes to Elk Valley

Balloons were released as the children yelled, “Move that bus,” to reveal the newest addition to the New Canaan Baptist Church.

In one week, 70 volunteers constructed a playground and basketball court as part of an extreme makeover mission at New Canaan Baptist Church in Elk Valley.

The youth group at Sevier Heights Baptist Church in Knoxville initiated the makeover mission. Over 50 volunteers from the church participated in building a playground and basketball court at New Canaan for the local youth.

Three arrests result from complaints

Complaints about illegal activity at Indian Mountain State Park in Jellico prompted action by the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department last week.

Detective Mike Perkins was patrolling in an unmarked county vehicle when he drove through the state park looking for suspicious activity, said Sheriff Gary Perkins.

Three people sitting in a vehicle parked off the side of the road were allegedly observed holding syringes, according to Mike Perkins.
