  • Guy Davis to play at Louie Bluie Festival

    With an already hot musical lineup planned for this year’s Louie Bluie Festival, acoustic Bluesman Guy Davis, “singer of songs and teller of tales” is going to heat it up a little more by playing songs from his most recent album.

    Davis grew up hearing stories of rural southern life from his parents and grandparents.  The past truly inspired and paved way the for Davis’ musical career, as it was these stories and the southern speech of his grandmother that inspired him.

  • White and Stanfield respond to Young’s suit with motion to dismiss

    Another wrinkle has emerged in the dispute among city of LaFollette employees.

    On Monday attorney Jon Roach filed a motion on behalf of the city of LaFollette along with Lynda White and Mayor Mike Stanfield to dismiss the lawsuit brought against the city as well as White and Stanfield individually by David G. Young, city administrator.

    According to information in the motion, Roach contends  the basis for Young’s suit “is totally lacking in clarity and specificity.”

  • Rock Racing returns to White Oak

    It’s time to start your engines and head to the annual XRRA rock racing competition in Jellico this weekend.

    The course in White Oak will be venue to the eastern division racers on Saturday and Sunday.

    “Pro competitors from all over the United States will be competing in the eastern pro race,” said Jellico Tourism Director Jake Bennett.

    The June 6 and 7, event in Jellico will be the third and fourth competitions between eastern division racers. The fifth and final eastern division races will also be held in Jellico on Aug. 15.

  • Questions are posed about Young’s voting rights

    In recent weeks County Commissioner David Young has been faced with questions about his right to hold an elected office.

    Last month he filed a petition in Campbell County Circuit Court to restore his voting rights because this issue is closely tied to the privilege of holding office.

    While his full citizenship rights were restored in 1997 by a federal court, the court of conviction, additional paperwork from a local court was needed.

  • Ronald McDonald wows youth at Library

    The LaFollette Public Library kicked off the summer reading program with a little magic and fun as Ronald McDonald promoted the benefits of reading.

    About 50 children sat quietly on the floor as the colorful clown performed magic tricks and sparked their imaginations with the possibilities of reading.

    McDonald, along with the McDonald Program Manager for the region Kali Starr, were the first guests of the summer reading program at the LaFollette Library.

  • Pignapped in the Park raises over $4K

    The Pignapped in the Park first time event, sponsored by Rickard Ridge, roasted up some fun on Saturday with entertainment, a motorcycle ride and plenty of food.

    “I felt like it was a big success,” said Rickard Ridge owner Mark Rickard. “Everybody loved it.”

    Benefiting the Wilderwood Service Dogs organization in Maryville, Rickard Ridge raised about $4,500 with donations from food and entertainment.
