  • Knoxville woman arrested for DUI and drugs

    A Knoxville woman found herself on the wrong side of the law after driving on the wrong side of the road in Jacksboro.

    Miranda Marie Brown, 18, of Knoxville, was arrested on April 6 after she was observed traveling east bound in the westbound lane on 25W in front of Cove Lake State Park, according to a Jacksboro Police report.

    Officer Zachary Graves witnessed the 1998 model Toyota Avalon allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road and initiated the lights and sirens near Eagle Mart. Brown pulled over at the Shell station located by County Lane, according to Graves.

  • Wallace held on drug and theft charges

    A LaFollette man led Jacksboro police on a foot chase after being caught shoplifting.

    Horace Wallace, 31, of 1464 Big Four Road LaFollette, was arrested on April 11 after he was allegedly caught shoplifting at Wal-Mart, according to a Jacksboro Police report.

    Jacksboro Officer Jeremy Goins was dispatched to Wal-Mart on the report that Wallace was fleeing from a Wal-Mart loss prevention agent due to an alleged theft. Goins reported witnessing Wallace fleeing across a field, which was fenced around the perimeter of the property.

  • BreadBox hosts Fill Up for Education program

    A busy day at the gas pumps meant money for LaFollette Middle School last Friday, during the BreadBox’s “Ten Off the Top” program.

    On April 9, all BreadBox locations participated to donate 10 cents for every gallon of gas purchased to area schools.

  • Former utility employee wants conference with board

    Chris Salyers, a former Jellico utility employee who recently filed a lawsuit for wrongful termination, has requested a hearing date with the Jellico Water and Electric Board of Directors.

    Salyers attorney, David Dunaway, said this process is unusual and is being done without his consent.

    Though Salyers lawsuit is still very much going forward in circuit court, Salyers feels an obligation to address the issue with the board.

  • Marburger arrested for burglary

    When the victims of a burglary received a call from the local pawnshop about property recently brought in they immediately called the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department.

    Josh William Marburger, 20, of LaFollette, left a trail of evidence after allegedly pawning several stolen items, according to Campbell County Sheriff Gary Perkins.

    Deputy Mark Bolton investigated the burglary of a vehicle in the county and was able to find the location of Marburger, said Perkins.

  • St. Mary’s wins Top 100 award

    For the second year, St. Mary’s of Campbell County has been named a Top 100 Hospital. This prestigious award, given to only 100 hospitals in the nation, is also a prerequisite for a new award given to St. Mary’s, the Everest Award.

    St. Mary’s CEO Allan Watson was overcome by the honor of winning both awards and spoke of the hard work of all the physicians and hospital associates.

  • Three month long investigation yields arrest, more pending

    The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant for suspected drug activity in the Elk Valley area last Thursday.

    Michael Jeffrey Uhlich, 32, of Newcomb was arrested for possession of multiple scheduled narcotics during the search, which resulted from a three month long investigation.

  • Caldwell arrested for burglary and theft

    As the investigation into the arson and burglary of a travel trailer on Walden Mountain continues, Campbell County Detectives have made an arrest connected to the case.

    Donald W. Caldwell, 29, was arrested on April 7, for theft of property and burglary.

    Tools stolen from the trailer earlier this month were traced back to Caldwell, according to Campbell County Sheriff Gary Perkins.

  • Jellico Utility makes revisions to policy

    Revisions to the use of vehicles and equipment documents garnered discussion by the Jellico Electric and Water System Board of Directors Tuesday night.

    The policy currently states that on-call personnel and supervisors are allowed to take vehicles home in the evening.

    Utility Manager Mike Bethurem said through conversations with other utilities he has learned that only one other system allows on-call employees to take home vehicle.
