  • Commission finds home for incubator

    Monday night, the Campbell County Commission found a home for the business incubator.

    “They’ve been operating out of McDonald’s and wherever,” County Mayor William Baird said.

    The county found space for the business incubator at the Jacksboro branch of Community Trust Bank.

    Commissioner Rusty Orick asked if the county was going to pay the rent.

  • Businessman Bob Andrews plans to sue city for $24,000

     While the site of Bob Andrew’s business might seem unsightly to some, it currently doesn’t violate any laws or ordinances.

    “I’m still licensed,” Andrews said. “They can’t ever take anybody’s right to do business. As long as they are doing legal business.”

  • Newcomb man arrested for narcotics-related charges

     A Newcomb man was arrested on drug related charges last Friday after he allegedly ran a stop sign.

    Tommy G. Worley allegedly failed to halt at the stop sign at the intersection of Dairy Street and Indian Mountain Road last Friday.

     After last week’s censure from the state comptroller’s office, Jellico’s leaders are waiting for an answer about how to fix the problem. 

    Last Monday, Jellico received a letter from the Tennessee State Comptroller’s office that scrutinized the use of its line of credit with First Volunteer Bank.

    Several citizens showed up at the Campbell County Commission workshop Monday to voice concerns about a proposed property tax hike.

    “I’m sick of paying over and over,” county resident Bill Deguire said. “Higher and higher. This and that. We’ve got enough to contend with (in Washington D.C.), without the people that live in the county.”

  • Budget woes for BOE

    Campbell County Schools are looking for a way to operate on $1.4 million less than they had last year.

    But despite the shortfall, the board of education passed the fiscal year 2012-13 budget on Tuesday night.

    “The school budget is a reduced budget compared to the previous year, substantially reduced. We’re still in need of additional funding,” said Jeff Marlow, Campbell County finance director.

  • Local fire department seeks help from commission

    Pine Crest Volunteer Fire Department Treasurer James Gross sought the Campbell County Commission’s help at the workshop Monday night.

    PCVFD has accumulated about $200,000 in debt.

    “That’s why we’re trying to establish the Norris Ridge Volunteer Fire Department,” Gross said.

    PCVFD will “die a corporate death,” and NRVFD will consist of the same members, using the same equipment and stations, and will cover the same area, Gross said.
