     JACKSBORO—Campbell County High School presents “Young Frankenstein” — a collaborative effort between the Advanced Vocal Music class of John Edwards and the Advanced Theatre Arts class of Billie Jo Ralston.

  • Ah-choo: Allergies in bloom

     Bless you, allergy sufferers. That sneezing-wheezing-coughing-itching, hard-to-focus-on-anything time of year is back with a vengeance. Symptoms associated with allergies are annoying for most. But for others, allergic reactions may lead to more serious conditions such as asthma and sinus infections. If left untreated, a patient’s quality of life may suffer. An estimated 26 million Americans — roughly 20 percent of the population — are affected by seasonal allergies, according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. 

  • Pinecrest fire coverage could be expanded

    Monday night, the Campbell County Commission unanimously approved the EMS committee’s decision to allow the Campbell County Rural Fire Service to assume responsibility for the Pinecrest community. For the past five months, no fire department has officially covered Pinecrest, but The CCRFS and Jacksboro Fire Department offered some fire protection to Pinecrest.
    Some residents complained about rising homeowners’ insurance rates. While many factors may have caused this, it could be a result of not having official coverage, CCRFS Chief Don McGuire said.

  • Jellico seeking applicants for town recorder

    JELLICO—The town is accepting applications for town recorder. The position is open after the resignation of previous town recorder, Linda Douglas.
    Sondra Denton, a CMFO from Englewood, has worked with the town on contract since mid-December.
    Job requirements for town recorder now include a college degree and previous office experience. The new recorder could be employed as early as June 1.
    A starting salary is not specified.

    “You’re killin’ me, Smalls!”

    The famous quote by “The Sandlot” character, Hamilton “Ham” Porter, fit the evening on Saturday for the Jellico middle school baseball squad.

    Nathan “Smalls” Johnson hurled a bomb from just inside right field, throwing Isaac Mitchell out at home plate. Catcher Max Farris made the tag, as Mitchell was trying to extend his triple into an inside-the-park home run.

    Hunter Scott is certainly making a name for himself on the mound for the Campbell County Cougars.

    The Louisiana native currently holds a 0.53 ERA through 26 innings pitched. He holds a 2-2 record as Campbell County’s starting pitcher.

    On Monday night, Scott only allowed tossed in six strikeouts in only five innings of play.
