  • Ward signs with Johnson University

    Campbell County senior Niki Ward is living out a dream.

    On Monday evening, the Lady Cougar point guard signed her intent to play with Johnson University in Knoxville.

    “I don’t have the words for it,” Ward said of the day. “I’m excited. I was given many, many different signs that showed me that this is where I needed to be.”

  • The Future Forest

    Change is inevitable as they say, even to long-lived life forms such as trees.  Our area presently have a fairly uniform oak-hickory type forest (average age 60 to 110 years) in the upland ridges, and young mixed hardwood forests in the hollows and drains. 

    Several forces are at work that could change the look and function of our forests.

    I am continuing this week with the though of sharing the plan of salvation. I believe as Christ gave the Disciples the Great Commission to go into all the world… We may not have to go into all the world… but we are responsible for sharing Christ with others.

    The Campbell County High School girls tennis team will travel to Powell High School. The girl’s match is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.

     

    Jellico High Softball

    The Jellico High School softball team will travel to Cumberland Gap for a non-district showdown. The varsity squad will begin at 5 p.m.

  • Tannis elected South Campbell County Rotary president

    Larry Tanis was elected president for South Campbell County Rotary Club. On March 24 he attended a multi-district President Elect Training Seminar in Nashville, according to a press release. Tanis said he looks forward to serving his term, which will begin July 1. Rotary is an organization committed to providing humanitarian services in the community locally and globally, Tanis said.

  • Local dentists react after HIV, hepatitis scare in Oklahoma

    Local dentists are reacting after thousands of patients could have possibly been exposed to HIV and hepatitis at a suburban Tulsa, Okla., dental practice. Free screenings for patients began there Saturday and testing will continue this week. Investigators are still alarmed about the sterilization process of the Oklahoma office that reportedly engaged in questionable hygiene practices. 

    “Whenever that happens dentists have to react,” said Eddie Towles, DDS, of Shel Dental Center on Jacksboro Pike in LaFollette.
