  • SPORTS NOTES — October 6

    Campbell County Youth Basketball sign-ups for girls and boys ages 5-15 will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the new LaFollette Community Center office in the old West LaFollette Elementary School building. The entry fee is $20 per child. For more information, call 562-9424.

    The lake level on Tuesday, Oct. 4 was 1,007.59 feet, which is a foot lower than it was the previous week. 

    Surface temperatures range from 72 to 75 degrees, depending on time of day and location. The lake is clear on the lower end, but the river sections have a little more color.

    Opening weekend harvests up for bears, deer, turkeys

    The weekend of Sept. 24-25 marked the beginning of bear, deer and turkey seasons for archers only. So far this year, there have been increased harvests for all three species.

    The Tennessee Valley Authority is installing a new safety warning system at Watauga Dam in Carter County and modifying others to improve public safety during water releases from the dams.
