  • Campbell County Indictments

    The following indictments were returned last week. Arraignments are scheduled for Sept. 7 at 8:30 a.m.
    Jamie Hembree- theft over $1,000, vandalism over $1,000.
    Nicholas Valdez- aggravated burglary, theft over $1,000.
    Paul Hubbard- rape.
    Sandra Wilson aka Smiddy- attempted theft of property $60,000 or more, forgery $60,000 or more, criminal simulation $60,000 or more.
    James Leach- simple possession of drug paraphernalia, promotion manufacture of meth (property), promotion manufacture of meth, reckless endangerment-deadly weapon involved.

  • Greyhound bus searched for explosives

    A Greyhound bus was stopped in Campbell County last Friday after a passenger called 911 to report a possible bomb on board, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

    The emergency dispatch in Knoxville received a phone call from a passenger about an individual carrying a suspicious package around his waist. The package was allegedly wrapped in duct tape and could possibly be an explosive, according to the report.

  • Wyrick and Marlow wed on McCloud Mountain

    Ashley Wyrick and Ben Marlow were married July 10 at McCloud Mountain Resort, Duff. Rev. Daniel Deck of Knoxville performed the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Barbara and Brian Ferguson of Madison, AL and Cindy and Tim Wyrick of Sevierville.  The groom is the son of Harrison Marlow and Mary Ledwell, both of Jacksboro.

    Happy 10th Anniversary to Randy and Sandra White on Sept. 2.

  • Myers and Johnson wed in Jamica

    Katrina Danielle Myers and Joshua Adam Johnson were united in marriage on Aug. 13 in a private ceremony in Negril, Jamaica. The bride is the daughter of Dennis and Connie Myers. She is the granddaughter of Betty and the late Carl Myers and Della and the late Vernal Summers. The groom is the son of Roger and Linda Johnson. He is the grandson of Lois and the late Johnny Johnson. A reception was held for the couple following their return to celebrate with family and friends. The couple resides in LaFollette.
     

  • Board green lights teacher raises; money yet to be designated

    It may have been the last meeting for four school board members, but that didn’t stop the group from carrying on with business as usual.
    When an agenda item dealing with raises for all certified employees came up for discussion outgoing board member Mark A. Wells wasted no time in making a motion in favor of the action.

  • Three women dedicate their lives to their jobs

    How many employers can say they have a staff member that has been with them 50 plus years? At least three in Campbell County can.
    China Willoughby with the Department of Children’s Services, Ruby Childress with Valley View Elementary School and Mildred Asbury with Peoples Bank of the South share over 150 years of hard work toward their chosen professions.
    Starting as a junior stenographer in September 1952, Willoughby has worked 58 years for the department of social services.
