  • Goins holds conference

In an afternoon press conference Sheriff Robbie Goins said he has released his Chief Deputy Jonathan Finley and a detective in the department, Jason Henegar, due to "policy violations." The violations stem from an auto accident Henegar was allegedly involved on on Sept. 6 around midnight.

The crash appears to have been "alcohol related," Goins said. He also said he wanted to stress Henegar's accident occurred when he was "off-duty."

  • Lessons learned from another family’s sorrow

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” Galatians 6:2.

The year 1970 was an emotional, touchy-feely time. The nation had experienced a decade of turmoil with political assassinations, riots on college campuses, and an unpopular still-raging war.

Suddenly the Jesus Revolution had swept the west coast and was moving east.

  • From the mountain

The last of the purple martins departed Highcliff on Aug. 9. The colony site by the garden is now utterly silent. I miss the cheerful martins and all the life that they bring to the farm.

But, they’ve got their schedule, dictated by the instinct instilled in them by Mother Nature to follow, while we humans have our timetable to follow.

I won’t be crossing the Gulf of Mexico on a wing and a prayer like the martins. I won’t be flying over the rainforests of Brazil, down below the equator, like the martins.

  • Jesus performs his first miracle

“On the third day there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; Jesus was also invited to the marriage, with his disciples” John 2:1-11, RSV.

The first miracle of Jesus was turning water into wine. A popular song of several years ago declared, “He turned the water into wine; he turned the water into wine. In the little Cana town, the word went all around; he turned the water into wine.”

  • God Can Bring Peace In The Midst Of Stress

Life sometimes causes us to feel like a rubber band stretched tight. Pressures build up and pull us in a different direction or pull against our sense of well-being.

Job, said “Man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward” Job 5:7.

From health to emotions, finances, and relationships, trouble stands at the brink of it all, waiting to make its unwelcome, untimely and unexpected entrance. No one is exempt.

Following an auto accident and the dismissal of of a Campbell County Detective, Sheriff Robbie Goins has let his second in command go.

Late Wednesday Goins terminated his Chief Deputy Jonathan Finely.

Earlier in the day, Det. Sgt. Jason Henegar was terminated from his position with the department. These firings came after an auto accident on Monday when Henegr was alleged to have driven his pick up truck into a home in LaFollette.

  • Cougars fall 38-14 to rival AC

Pre-game fireworks. Rowdy home crowd. Black jerseys.

Campbell County High School’s football team pulled out all the stops Friday night to try and knock District 3 rival Anderson County off its high horse.

But the Mavericks (1-0 district, 1-2 overall) stuck to their guns and barely flinched while extending their win streak over the Cougars (0-1 district, 1-2 overall) to five in a row.
