The Civil War ended on April 9, 1865 and 147 years later, the Big Creek Gap Civil War marker was unveiled in LaFollette.
Obtaining recognition for this rare site had been on the minds of many in the county. The process began over a year ago and thanks to the efforts on both a local and state level the site was finally commemorated last Thursday.
Big Creek Gap is now part of the Civil War Trails Program, along with other sites in Tennessee. As such, it will be listed on the website, along with links to maps and driving directions to the area.
