  • BOE hosts town hall meeting; Martin says tough road ahead

    Parents, school system staffers and a number of county officials packed into the Jacksboro Middle School library last Thursday evening for a town hall meeting hosted by the Campbell County Board of Education.

    In lieu of flowery introductions that are often reserved for such meetings Dr. Michael Martin, director of schools, wasted little time before delivering a state of the district address of sorts.

  • Book brings complaint

    Following complaints from a vocal parent regarding a book written by the Campbell County varsity boy’s basketball coach, Dr. Michael Martin, director of schools, said he saw absolutely nothing wrong with the book written Barry Jones.

    In fact, he liked it.

    “I thought it was good,” said Martin on Wednesday afternoon.

    The book is basically an autobiography that details the childhood of Jones, his struggle to adulthood and beyond. In a nutshell, it’s a story about how God’s grace can change the life of one man.

  • Cougars find themselves in familiar role as underdogs

    Campbell County High School’s boys will find themselves in familiar territory when the District 3-AAA Basketball Tournament tips off this week.

    The Cougars, who were seeded fifth a year ago before upsetting Knoxville teams West and Central en route to the championship game, are seeded sixth this season. Campbell County opens tournament play at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Fri.) night against archrival Anderson County in one of two games scheduled at Clinton High School. The remainder of the tournament will be held next week at Knox Halls.

  • Blue Devils seeded third in District 4-A

    After winning District 2-A regular season and league tournament championships in 2009, Jellico High School’s boys had a tougher time this year after moving to District 4.

    The Blue Devils (9-3 district, 16-9 overall) are seeded third going into this week’s district tournament at Wartburg.

  • Lady Cougars land two on girl’s all-district team

    A pair of 1,000-point career scorers are Campbell County’s representatives this year on the Girl’s All-District 3-AAA Basketball Team.

    Seniors Jessica Moore and Candice

    Seiber were chosen to the team last week by the league coaches after leading the Lady Cougars (10-6 district, 17-10 overall) to a third place regular season finish.

    Moore, a 5-foot-8 guard who has signed to play college basketball next year for Campbell University, passed the 1,000-point mark earlier this season.

  • CCHS girls happy with tournament seeding

    There are worse things than finishing third in the district.

    Ryan Browning, the girl’s basketball coach at Campbell County High School, was envisioning a nightmare scenario after his team started the season with a 1-4 record.

    However, with the steady leadership of seniors Jessica Moore, Candice Seiber and Lindsay Evans, the Lady Cougars quickly regrouped to win 16 of their next 22 games and grab the third seed going into this week’s District 3-AAA Tournament at Knox Halls.
