    Amanda Hinch and Megan Seiber have partnered together to open Simplicity Hair Salon.

    With over 11 combined years of experience in the salon business, Hinch and Seiber are excited to finally start a business of their own.

    “”I’ve been doing hair for nine years and I always wanted to own my own shop,” said Hinch, who formally worked with Seiber.

    The two friends found a good location to begin their business and the partnership began, according to Hinch.

  • Between a Ballad and a Blues tells the story of Howard Armstrong’s life

    Audience members both young and old attended the Carpetbag Theatre‘s play honoring LaFollette music legend Howard “Louie Bluie” Armstrong.

    Sponsored by the Campbell Culture Coalition (CCC), the play premiered in Campbell County March 13 at LaFollette Middle School.

  • Wilson pleads guilty to theft over $10K

    A woman charged with theft and forgery pled guilty to her crimes in criminal court on Monday.

    Tracy Lynn Tackett- Wilson, 23, of LaFollette will spend the next six-years on unsupervised probation. She was also ordered to pay court costs and a $1,000 fine to the Economic Crime Fund.

    Wilson was arrested on Feb. 2.  She had been accused of siphoning funds from a local construction company while employed as its bookkeeper.

  • Jail addition gets greenlight

    The addition of a $1.3 million kitchen and laundry facility to the county’s jail invoked a lively discussion at Monday’s meeting.

    “The jail committee has not done a complete analysis of what it would take to remodel the old jail,” Commissioner Adrion Baird said during debate of Commissioner Rusty Orick’s motion to proceed with the project.

    Baird called the jail committee’s failure to wait for the recommendations from a pending feasibility study on possible uses for the old facility “irresponsible.”

  • Cross pleads guilty

    It was different side of the story for former police officer Jeremy Cross on Monday.

    Instead of pressing charges, he was pleading to them.

      Cross was facing charges of rape, official oppression and two counts of official misconduct, according to his indictment.

    The charges came following a complaint filed by a female Cross had stopped for an alleged traffic offense in July 2008, said LaFollette Police Lt. Monty Miller at that time.

  • Martin fires back on travel issues

    Amid a major flap concerning the out of state travel of board of education members and school system employees, Dr. Michael Martin, director of schools, is making few apologies.

    Sitting in the central office’s conference room Monday morning, Martin and others who participated in the conference and fact-finding mission were confident their explanation of the recent travel would be enough to silence most of the critics.

  • Tragic fire claims life of toddler, mother and infant remain in serious condition

    On Friday evening, LaFollette Firefighters who had responded to two dangerous fires in two days attended a chaplain service.  The severity of the blazes and the aftermath were the reasons for the service.

    The firefighters that responded to the fatal fire at 803 West Cherry Street on Friday morning were not emotionally prepared to give CPR to all three victims in the house, said LaFollette Fire Chief Gary Byrd.

  • Massengill flips on husband; charges reduced

    After Ann Massengill agreed to a plea that reduced her charges and has her testifying against her husband, she was granted probation.

    Facing four counts of attempted first-degree murder Massengill saw those downgraded on Monday. Instead, she pled guilty to aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

    These charged resulted in a four-year probation sentence, given Massengill provides “statements consistent with those given to (Jacksboro) Chief (Danny) Chapman” in the case against her husband, the plea agreement said.

  • Cheel to spend eight years behind bars

    Royal Cheel will have quite awhile to cool his heels following court on Monday.

    Under the plea agreement he consented to Cheel was sentenced to eight years in prison for two counts of aggravated robbery and burglary.

    The 27 –year- old Pioneer man managed to evade authorities for nearly a year until his luck ran out last month.

    That is when a joint investigation conducted by the LaFollette Police Department Detective division and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department caught up with Cheel.

  • Ellison going to prison

    It took Gerard Shawn Ellison less than two months to rack up enough charges to net him a two-year prison sentence.

    On Monday Ellison agreed he was guilty of felony escape, felony evading arrest and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. In return, Criminal Court Judge Shayne Sexton sentenced Ellison to the two-year term behind bars.
