  • People's Bank robbed at gunpoint; police still searching

    Just after 9 am this morning a man wearing a black ski mask armed with a handgun walked into the Jacksboro branch of People's National Bank and demanded money.

    At the moment local law enforcement is searching for the man who got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

    Helicopters from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Knox County Sheriff's Department are active in the search.

  • Poston named new director of schools

    After months of anticipation about who would replace the embattled Dr. Michael Martin as the next director of schools, the wait is finally over.

    At tonight's special called board meeting Chairman Mike Orick explained to the packed courtroom that each candidate would be voted on separately and the first one to receive seven votes would be Campbell County's next director of schools. Donnie Poston was the first of the three candidates to be voted on.

    ORNL Federal Credit Union will have a car wash/yard sale/bake sale at McDonalds on April 16from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to support Relay 4 Life. Car washes will be on a donation basis. Yard sale items and baked goods will be individually priced.

    The Campbell County Artist Association will have its regular monthly meeting on April 14 at 7 p.m.  The meeting will be held in the Chaniott and Carroll Studio in the West LaFollette Recreation Building.  Bring a sample of some of your art work for discussion.     A community Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Well Springs United Methodist on April 16 at 2 p.m.  Rain date is April 23  at 2 p.m.

     

    Stoney Fork Volunteer Fire Department will host an Easter egg hunt on April 16 at 1 p.m. with age groups from one to five, six to ten and ten to 13. Prize eggs will be given out for each age group and little gifts for everyone. Refreshments will be served.
