This week marked the 150th anniversary of the formation of Companies A and B of the First Tennessee Infantry. These companies, formed in Campbell County, were the first federal units organized in Tennessee during the civil war. There were no confederate units formed in Campbell County.
Southern pride lies deep in the roots of people born south of the Mason Dixon line. This pride still exists for those in East Tennessee whose ancestors fought for the union, but not as confederate pride, Campbell County Historical Society researcher Joe Stephens said.
