  • Kennedy’s request to modify sentence denied- again

    Making a second attempt at not serving his sentence straight through, Robert Kennedy asked the court on Monday to allow him work release for last 30 days of his 90-day confinement.

    Kennedy was sentenced to the 90-day stretch after pleading guilty to criminally negligent homicide in death of his stepdaughter Brittany Gardner.

    Earlier this month, Kennedy appeared in court asking he be allowed to serve his time on weekends only. He had a job where he was needed, Kennedy testified.

  • Kitts plea means jail time

    Kenny Kitts appears to be taking care of his outstanding court business.

    On Monday, Kitts entered into two plea agreements that resolved criminal charges for him dating back to 2007.

    As a result of those pleas, he was sentenced to spend time behind bars.

    In his first agreement, Kitts plead guilty to possession of a controlled substance with attempted intent to deliver it and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    He was sentenced to spend six months in jail but given credit for the time he had served. Kitts was also placed on eight years supervised probation.

  • Mother accused of harming daughter appears in court

    A LaFollette woman has resolved her pending criminal case by pleading no contest to charges she harmed her child.

    Carol Longmire entered the plea in court on Monday that essentially said she was not admitting guilt but was not contesting the charge.

    Initially charged with child abuse and neglect, Longmire’s charge was reduced to assault by offensive touching, the plea form said.

  • Public hearing on nepotism met by citizen opposition

    Despite opposition to proposed changes in LaFollette’s nepotism policy, the revisions passed when the mayor broke a tie vote.

     “I don’t know what the nepotism law would benefit and how it would benefit the citizens by allowing the hiring (of council and mayor relatives),” said Councilman Bob Fannon.

    Fannon, who has vehemently spoke against the policy since it was first brought up, went on to state in his business the highest area of conflict is where immediate relatives are located under department heads.

  • New flotilla sets sail on Norris Lake

    The 800 miles of shoreline on Norris Lake will have some extra patrol this summer thanks to the addition of the Norris Lake Flotilla.

    Almost 30 people have agreed to devote themselves to the buoyant group of citizens providing boating safety services and monitoring of lake activity.

    On Feb. 24, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) helped initiate several locals into the flotilla.
