    It may be cramped quarters, but LaFollette Library Director Nancy Green has made space available for over 100 patrons on a daily basis at the city facility.

    Now, according to Green, plans for a new library have been set in motion.

  • Nepotism policy is shared by many municipalities

    A nepotism ordinance passed by the city of LaFollette with three votes has been changed to exclude the mayor and council.

    At the Tuesday night meeting Mayor Mike Stanfield read the ordinance, with the change.

    “We discussed changing the policy to delete mayor and council,” said Stanfield prior to reading the ordinance.

  • Homeless results show increase from last year

    In 24 hours last Thursday, Phyllis Clingner estimated the homeless population in Campbell County to be just under 100 people.

    With the help of churches, charitable organizations and the LaFollette Housing Authority the estimated homeless is 97 men, woman and children without a place to call home.

  • Wilson arrested after siphoning money from employer

    A slow depletion of funds from a local construction company led supervisors to question bookkeeper Tracey Lynn Tackett-Wilson, 23, of LaFollette.

    According to Campbell County Sheriff Gary Perkins, the supervisors of the construction company brought the case to the sheriff’s department seeking action.

  • WalMart employee arrested for theft

    An employee of Wal-Mart arrested for theft, netted additional charges when pills were found in his socks.

    According to Jacksboro Officer James Skeans, he was dispatched to the large retail store in reference to a theft.

  • Jacksboro police arrest woman for vehicle theft

    Selling a vehicle for $75 netted charges of theft of property over $1000 for Amy Renae Matlock, 33, from Jacksboro.

    Jacksboro Detective Mike Starrett investigated the theft of the vehicle, taken from the father of Matlock’s ex-boyfriend, the report indicates.

  • PAW clinic reaches out to Campbell County

    A not-for-profit spay and neuter clinic in Greenback has extended a helping paw to Campbell County.

    The PAW clinic is currently offering a big dog special, which is a free spay and neuter to dogs over 30 pounds. The special is offered based on income and aimed at helping those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford the surgeries.

    “Our whole mission is to prevent euthanasia by keeping these animals from being killed in shelters, run over on the streets and dumped off,” said Clinic Director Debbie Searfoss.

  • Fight school to open in Campbell County

    The bad boys are coming to town.

    Seasoned fight promoter Charles Headley is starting a fight school in Woodson’s Mall.

    Headley said Bad Boy Promotions, LLC should be up and running by the end of February.

    He plans not only for a fight school, but an expo center as well.

    “I plan on leasing the old Hall’s Salvage area to host the fights, as well as motorcycle and car shows, powwows and concerts,” Headley said.

    He plans on calling it LaFollette Expo.

  • Jacksboro election candidates announced

    It’s election time in Jacksboro.

    The seats on the ballot include a mayor and three aldermen positions.

    Incumbent Jack Cannon is running for mayor unopposed, according to election commission records.

    Of the three aldermen spots that will appear on the April ballot, one is for a two-year term only. Mattie Lou Nance, who currently sits on the board, and Michael J. Sharp are competing for this position.

    The other two aldermen positions are for four-year terms.
