    The Human Society of Campbell County will meet Feb. 17 at 7p.m. at the LaFollette Recreation Center.

     

    Relay for Life team captains meeting will be held Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Jacksboro Middle School. This will be a time to get ideas, share ideas, fellowship, pick up team signs and other materials.

    A chili and pie supper will be held at Camp Galilee on March 4, suggested donation is $5. Serving will be from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be Bluegrass/Gospel music from 6 to 8 p.m., a silent auction will be held with winners announced at 8 p.m. For more information call 562-4910.

     

    Mountain View Independent Baptist Church of LaFollette food pantry will be open Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. Please use side entrance, proof of income, proof of residence, a photo ID and utility bill.

     

  • Jail addition meets resistance

    The issue of the proposed justice center continued to have a presence at Monday night’s commission workshop.

    Despite the fact the project is poised to start as early as next month with a pre-bid conference and bid solicitation some commissioners are still second guessing the decision to move forward with the $11 million facility.

  • Caryville ready to take apps for liquor stores

    Actions speak louder than words.

    Though several citizens made requests at the public hearing Monday night, the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen stuck to the liquor ordinance and beer sale times previously established.

    The board unanimously approved the final reading for ordinance 2011-01, amending title eight of the municipal code by establishing liquor regulations and amending laws for Sunday beer sales.

  • Jacksboro falls off the Sunday wagon

     Last Thursday night the Jacksboro Board of Mayor and Aldermen joined the city of LaFollette by amending its beer ordinance to allow the sale of beer on Sunday.

    Mayor Jack Cannon opened the discussion concerning amending the ordinance, by saying the town was losing revenue by not allowing beer sales on Sunday.

    As the board attempted to set the hours for Sunday beer sales, the aldermen looked toward Cannon for guidance. After several minutes, Alderwoman June Forstner came forward with a suggestion.
