    Billy Russell’s string of October thefts has netted him a six-year probation sentence.

    In criminal court last week, Russell entered his guilty plea in the case that had him facing eight felony charges.

  • Bowman given probation for thefts

    Even though Anthony Meade Bowman admitted to stealing a variety of construction tools, none of them helped cut his sentence for the crime down.

    In September 2008, Bowman was arrested by county officials after it was learned he had allegedly stolen $100 from the office of a Jacksboro business. During that same offense, Bowman was thought to have also taken a chainsaw, hedge trimmer, two sets of cordless saws and drills along with other various Craftsman tools, court records of the arrest said. These items were taken from a storage building adjacent to the office.

  • Green pleads guilty in forgery case

    Along with paying nearly $1,000 in restitution, a LaFollette man will spend the next four years on probation for multiple forgery counts.

    Last week, Gary Robert Green, II pleaded guilty to four counts of forgery and theft under $500 while appearing in criminal court. He must also pay court costs and a $375 fine.

  • Lions Club is holding essay contest to raise awareness

    The Lions Club of Campbell County has been a leader in providing eye care to children and adults in the area. Diabetes can cause many health problems including a loss of sight due to diabetic retinopathy, according to the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

    This and other health risks are the reason for the Lions Club essay contest recently given to schools throughout the county.

    The Lions Club has contacted schools throughout the county to participate in an essay contest to raise awareness about diabetes.

  • Utility petitioned by First Volunteer for bids on general fund

    Jellico Alderman Mike Johnson addressed the Jellico Electric and Water Board as a representative from First Volunteer Bank of Tennessee last week.

    “I am here petitioning the utility board is to start bidding out the general funds on a yearly basis,” said Johnson.

  • Stolen gun led to drug charges

    A couple soliciting work from door to door, netted charges of theft and felony possession of paraphernalia.

    Last Wednesday, the Caryville Police Department investigated a theft at a residence. The victim allegedly agreed to hire Keith Young, 33, and Tammy Leann Nash-Young, 29, both of Caryville, to do a roofing job.

  • Jellico utility looks at energy efficiency

    The Jellico Electric and Water Board discussed a proposition to refund money to individuals who put power back in the system on Tuesday night.

    The proposition was proposed to General Manager Mike Bethurem by the organization Kentucky Highlands.

  • Robbery warrant executed for King’s arrest

    An 81-year-old female fell pray to a purse snatching on Christmas Eve while finishing some last minute Christmas shopping at the Dollar General Store in Jellico.

    According to Jellico Police Chief Chris Anderson, the victim was exiting her vehicle when a white male came up behind her.
