    Word of Life Church will be celebrating five in the Lafollette area on March 20. Saturday night revival services will be at 7 p.m. with Evangelist Gary White,   Sunday morning 11 a.m. worship service, and dinner will be served at 1 p.m., in the afternoon there will be  a community singing open to all who would like to take part .

  • Local ladies enjoy cheering for college team

      Several local young women — Erica Ayers, Hannah Byrge, Lori Adkins, Shannon Wilder and Cheyenne Baker — just finished their season of cheering for the Lincoln Memorial University basketball teams, while another — Amy Orick — completed her first year as a member of the LMU dance team.

  • Tennis teams sweep AC

     Victoria McCullah returns a shot for the Lady Cougars while playing No. 3 seed doubles with Kelsey Chapman during a 6-3 victory over Anderson County at Clinton. The CCHS boys also won their match, 3-1. Both Campbell County teams are now 2-2 this season.    


  • Middle school baseball team ready for season

      Campbell County Middle School Baseball will begin its second official season under the CCHS umbrella, a vision of head coach Brad Collette to be a developmental program for the High School. Last year’s team finished 4-11 and gained valuable experience. The sophomore edition includes the addition of 6th graders with future hopes of a Middle School JV and Varsity that will transition to the High School JV and Varsity.

  • Lady Cougars set lofty goals for 2011-12 season

     Their season has been over less than a month, and already members of the Campbell County High School girl’s basketball team are looking forward to next year.

    And with everyone returning from a team that finished third in the district tournament and advanced to regionals, why shouldn’t they be counting the days until practice begins in November?

    All-district point guard Courtney Morris will lead half a dozen CCHS seniors, most of whom have started two years in a row.

  • Little League sign-up set Saturday

      The LaFollette Little League Baseball and Softball organization has a player sign-up day scheduled for Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the LaFollette Recreation Center. 

    This is the last chance to sign up before the season starts. 

    Also, anyone that wants to coach must sign up during this time.

  • Peel attends Football University at San Antonio

        Jacksboro quarterback Kaine Peel was one of 200 middle school football players from the United States and Canada invited to the Football University combine sponsored by the U.S. Army and Eastbay Shoes. While attending the 3-day camp at San Antonio, Peel was involved in several skills competitions, including a 7-on-7 league, and was tutored by current and former NFL coaches. Peel had the second-best vertical jump in his group.

     

     

  • Miss Basketball winners announced

     Winners of Tennessee’s Division I Miss Basketball Awards were announced last week at the conclusion of each of the championship games at the state tournament.

    Shacobia Barbee of Riverdale High School was named Class AAA Miss Basketball for 2011. The other two finalists were Hasina Muhammad from Ridgeway High School and Caya Williams from Mt. Juliet High School. 

  • UC cheerleaders qualify for NCA Nationals meet

     The University of the Cumberlands cheerleading squad competed in the first ever NAIA Mid-South Spirit Invitational on Feb. 12 at Rome, Ga., where UC took first place and received a bid to the National Cheer Association (NCA) Nationals.  

    The NCA Nationals will be held April 6-10 at Daytona Beach.
