  • Scott County Homeless Shelter available to four-county area

It’s a sobering realization that a homeless shelter may be needed by Campbell Countians. But at the same time it’s reassuring to know there is a place to go for those in need.

Ray Perry, case manager with Scott County Homeless Shelter, attended the LaFollette City Council workshop last Monday to tell people about the resources available.

Up to 180 families utilized the homeless shelter last year; about 25 percent were from Campbell County, according to Perry.

When truth stumbles in the street

The sovereignty of God and the free will of man are parallel truths that we experience as we move toward the coming of the Son of Man.

God makes it clear in His word that what He decides is greatly dependent on the behavior of man- eternal life or judgment.

As we look at our national situation through the study of Scripture. May God awaken us to His righteousness.

  • Faithful Words

“Unto the angel of the church of Sardis write . . . I know thy works” (See Revelation 3:1-7, RSV).

After a recent service I returned to my office and told the secretary, “I am exhausted!” Have you ever felt that way? Christian service can leave us exhilarated and it can leave us drained. We must use caution not to become “weary in well-doing.”

Where does the church (and where do Christians) get energy, power, and the breath of life?

  • On Higher Ground

Beware, your sins will come back to haunt you (when you least expect it)

“O God, You know my foolishness; and my sins are not hidden from You” (Psalm 69:5). We can perhaps hide our sins from others for awhile, but God sees them.  And often they resurface when we least expect it.

    Our supreme example prayed often

I think sometimes we forget the importance of prayer. Luke gives us seven accounts of Jesus praying.

Christ was, and is the supreme example for all of those who follow Him. Luke 3:21-22, “Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened.

And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
