Brenda Annette Adkins

Brenda Annette Adkins, age 58 of West Memphis passed away Feb. 15 at her home.

She was a homemaker and member of First United Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by daughter, Carmen Irene Adkins.

She is survived by her husband, Elbert Adkins; two daughters, Shelia Annette Brouillette of Pittsburg, California, Teresa Marie Ray of West Memphis; sister, Ellen Loraine McVay of Memphis; brother, Michael Malcomb McClellan of Memphis; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Maness, Matthew Adkins Maness and Whitney Marie Ray; a host of friends and family.

Funeral Services were held Feb. 23 at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Hugh Adkins officiating. Interment was at Rogerston Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Goldie Ruth Brown


Goldie Ruth Brown, age 75 formerly of LaFollette passed away Feb. 20 at her home in Dolton, Illinois.

She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by parents, Arthur & Mary Wilhoit Burris; sisters, Thelma Lewallen and Wilma Burris; brother, Jr. Burris.

She is survived by daughter, Debra Bank and husband, Bruce of Florence,Kentucky; son, Sam Brown and wife Wendy of Whiting, Indiana; grandchildren, Mary and Grace Bank and Joseph and Heidi Brown; brother, Edsel Burris of Knoxville; sisters , Mable Lovely of LaFollette and Helen Stevens of Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Funeral services were held at Cross Chapel with Clifford Holms officiating. Interment was in Willoughby Cemetery in Jacksboro.

Louise M. Sharp Byrge


Louise M. Sharp Byrge, age 69 of Lake City, passed away Feb. 22 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Louise was born May 26, 1937 in Anderson County to the late Ned and Phyllis Duncan Sharp. She was a member of the Longfield Baptist Church. She enjoyed making flower arrangements and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Anthony Byrge.

She is survived by her husband, John “Tom” Byrge; son David Byrge and wife Pam; brother, J.L. Sharp and wife, Maxie; sister, Nancy Shrull and husband, Ken; and grandchildren, Russell and Matt Byrge all of Lake City.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Methodist Medical Center for their loving kindness and care given to Louise.

Funeral services were held Feb. 23 at Hatmaker Funeral Home with Rev. James Lane and Rev. Don Martin officiating. Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake City with Rev. Wayne Phillips officiating. Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.



Rev. Ralph Cordell


Rev. Ralph Cordell, age 85 of LaFollette passed away Feb. 22 at the St. Mary’s Health and Rehab.

He was a member of West LaFollette Baptist Church. He preached his first sermon September 12, 1943 and was ordained July 2, 1944. He pastored Big Creek Gap and was the first pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in LaFollette. He was director of missions for Campbell County for 30 years. He belonged to the Campbell County Masonic Lodge # 778 F & AM and was a Shriner.

He was preceded in death by 2 infant daughters, Phyllis Ann and Connie Gail Cordell; parents, John and Leona Nelson Cordell; mother and father-in-law, Fletcher and Ethel Grant; brothers, James, Kenneth and Evan Cordell; sister, Jean Cordell.

He is survived by wife of 61 years, Helen Cordell; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Richard Enix of Lake City, Margaret Davis of Orange Park, Florida, Doris and Mickey Sharp of LaFollette, Debbie and Jay Ragain of Great Lakes, Illinois; sons and daughters- in-law, Paul and Loretta Cordell of LaFollette, Steve and Emily Cordell of Statesboro, Georgia; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Vincent, Naomi King, Lorene Leach, Dorothy Tackett all of LaFollette; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Feb. 24 at West LaFollette Baptist Church with Rev. H. Lee Ray and Rev. Jim Wilcox officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery. Campbell County ministers were honorary pallbearers.

Elmer Cecil Cox


Elmer Cecil Cox, age 81 of Powell passed away Feb. 21 at Norris Health and Rehab Center.

He was a member of Bishopville Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy.

He is preced in death by wife, Flora Cox; parents, Fred and Carrie Cox; sons, Robert E. and Cecil Alan Cox; granddaughter, Melissa Ann Enix.

He is survived by daughters, Fay Coffey and husband, Michael of LaFollette, Delores Ann Reaves and Bobby Abbott of Clinton; grandchildren, Steve Cook, Lisa Cobb and husband, Doug, Penny Wright and husband, Chris, April Mynatt and husband, Chris, Randy Reaves, Ronnie Reaves and wife, Nicole; sisters, Madeline Lockhart of Claxton, Mary Bean of Daneville, Illinois; several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

Eva Jane Davis


Eva Jane Davis, age 87 of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Fairview, Kentucky, passed away Feb. 17 at Akron City Hospital.

She is survived by nephews, Bill Williams and wife, Pat; and David Williams and wife, Juanita, both of Akron, Ohio; nieces, Louise Swan of Jefferson City; Shirley Fannin and husband, James of Akron, Ohio; and Dorothy Roberts of Jacksboro; a host of friends and relatives mourn her passing.

Jerma Sue Davis Gibson


Jerma Sue Davis Gibson, age 72 passed away Feb. 21.

The daughter of the late Robert Franklin Davis and Mossie Rachel Heatherly Davis, she was a homemaker, member of Maynard Baptist Church and a member of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Gibson of Juliette: children Robert DeWitt Gibson of Murfreesboro, Charles Wayne Gibson of Gray, Craig Davis Gibson of Macon, Georgia and Mark Wesley Gibson of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; sister, Vivian Kitts of LaFollette; seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 24 at Maynard Baptist Church with Rev. Floyd Hunnicut and Dr. Marvin Lee officiating. Interment was in Monroe Memorial Gardens.

Tom Jones


Tom Jones, age 48 of the Bethlehem community of LaFollette passed away Feb. 24 at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County.

He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was employed by the Campbell County Highway Department.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Oscar and Ethel Jones and

Emit and Nora Goins.

He is survived by wife, Carolyn Jones; son, Tommy Lee Jones and wife Tara; daughter, Shaun Goins and husband Dexter; granddaughter, Tara Goins; parents, Golda and Neoma Jones; brothers Earl Jones, Audra Jones and wife Patricia, Bill Jones and wife Sue; mother-in-law, Cornie Lee Goins, all of LaFollette; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Feb. 26 at Walters Chapel with Rev. Bill Braden and Rev. Ronnie Poston officiating. Interment was in Goins Cemetery.

Horace Lee Leach


Horace Lee Leach, age 72 of Speedwell passed away February 18 at the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.

He was a life-long resident of Speedwell. He was saved at age nine and joined New Salem Baptist Church in Speedwell. He left this life a member of Duff Baptist Church. He was a 51 year member of Valley Star #577 Masonic Lodge. He worked at various jobs through the years, but his heart could only be happy working on his birthplace farm. He enjoyed hard work producing burley tobacco, hay, corn, and beef cattle. His home was always surrounded by beautiful flowers. He also enjoyed taking care of the Leach Family Cemetery for many years until his health failed. Horace Lee loved the Lord, attending church and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents, Horace McKinley and Carrie Izetta (Bullard) Leach; sister, Ruby Leach Myers.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Betty Spradlin Leach; son, Roger Lee Leach and wife, Amy of Speedwell; daughter, Lana Kay Russell and husband Willard Jr. (Bill) of New Tazewell; sister, Audra (Bobbie) Leach Russell and husband, Lloyd of Speedwell; five grandchildren, Caleb, Ethan and Hannah Leach and Mary Faith and McKinley Russell.

A special thanks is extended from the family to the medical staff of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center for the outstanding care provided during his lengthy illness.

Mary Daugherty Medlin, age 65 of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Jacksboro, passed away Feb. 25.

She was preceded in death by son, Jesse Theodore Medlin; parents, Theodore and Janie Alice Daugherty; brothers, Doyle, Donald, Charles and David.

She was survived by her husband, W.T. Medlin of Ohio; sons, Timothy and Charles Clinton of Virginia Beach, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Wendy Medlin; three cherished grandchildren, Lindsey, Thomas and Jessie Theodore Medlin, Jr. all of Richmond, Virginia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lendon and Madge Daugherty and Doug and Lela Daugherty of Jacksboro, Curtis Daugherty of Norris, Edmond and Marie Daugherty of Flint, Michigan, sisters, Dorothy Spradlin of Spotsylvania, Virginia, Betty Blair of Kettering, Ohio, Jolene and Andy Hill of Dayton, Ohio, Kathy and David Lambert of Clinton, sister-in-laws, Betty Daugherty of Dalton, Georgia and Barbara Daugherty of Orlando, Florida. She leaves behind many wonderful nieces and nephews and was very close to her great nieces and great nephews. Her legacy will live on through all generations of her family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. March 2 at Indian Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Townsend, Rev. Bobby Ray Wilson and Rev. Bill Wilson officiating.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Cemetery Fund of Indian Creek Baptist Church.

Earnie Pace

Earnie Pace, age 73 of Trotwood, Ohio, formerly of Caryville, passed away Feb.19, in Dayton, Ohio.

She was born August 1, 1933 in Caryville, the daughter of Howard and Nola Carroll. She retired from General Motors. She was a very giving person and dedicated to her family.

She was preceded in death by husband, William Pace; daughter, Diana Pace; sister, Louise Caldwell; two brothers.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Lori Pace of Dayton, Ohio; daughters, Carolyn “Sue” Truitt of Dayton, Ohio and Marilyn Pace of Trotwood, Ohio; grandchildren, Diana, Tina, Michael, Jake, Luke, Leanne, Brittany and Sherry; numerous great grandchildren; sisters, Tressie and Odessie; longtime best friend, Sara.

Funeral services were held Feb. 24 in Martin Wilson Chapel. Interment was in Carroll Cemetery.

Doris C. (Dot) Patty


Doris C. (Dot) Patty, age 75 of Kenosha, Wisconsin passed away Feb. 21.

Born on April 9, 1931, in Glade Creek, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late William and Lola (Randolph) Perry. She was educated in Caryville schools. On December 26, 1947, in Caryville she was united in marriage to Albert Patty. Together they were blessed with three loving children.

She was employed with Promat Labs and then with American Motors Corporation working in the laboratory and production departments. In 1969 she retired to become a fulltime homemaker.

She was a member of Parkside Baptist Church and had formerly served as a council member for the International Order of Jobs Daughters. Dot will be remembered for the love she shared with her family and grandchildren. She was “the best grandma and cook”, enjoyed her bus trips to the casinos with her friends and loved playing pinochle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Albert of Kenosha; three children, Tammy (Tim) Wojnicz of Kenosha, Terri (Jim) Hanrahan of Kenosha; and Lee (Jill) Patty of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Caitlin, Max, Holly, Ella and Ava; a brother, Bill Perry of Powell; and two sisters, Treba (Leon) Trammel of LaFollette, and Verda Marcum of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dot’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the United Hospital Systems – Kenosha Campus C.C.U. nursing staff and Dr. Peter Mariani for their compassionate care.

Funeral Services were held Feb. 26 at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Interment followed in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.



Nina Mae Penny

Nina Mae Penny, age 80, of LaFollette passed away February 26 at her home after a long illness.

She loved cookie jars, John Wayne and her family very much.

She was preceded in death by grandson, Kenneth Dunnigan; sister, Irene Kline; daughter-in-law, Caroline Penny.

She is survived by six children Woodrow Penny and Sue Dunnigan of Alabama, Paul Penny, Lawnie Penny, Florence Reichow of LaFollette, Lucinda McKenzie of Michigan; 24 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on February 28 in the Martin Wilson Chapel. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Bobby Jack (Pete) Price


Bobby Jack (Pete) Price, age 69 of LaFollette passed away Feb. 27 at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by parents, “Evert and Velier Reynolds Price, lovingly known as “Mom and Pop” Price; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Homer Wooten; niece, JoAnn Goins; nephew, Timothy Scott Price; great niece, Stacy Hatfield.

He is survived by daughters, Scarlett Johnson and her husband, Ray of Lenoir City, Heather Kelley and her husband, Robby of Sweetwater, Amber Price of Clinton; grandson Jordan Chase Price; granddaughter, Abigail Jordan Kelley; sisters, Pat Goins of LaFollette, Sue Shoupes and husband James of Xenia, Ohio; brothers, Everette Price and wife, Linda of Cookeville, Jilmmy Price and wife, Betty of Fairborn, Ohio; aunts, Loraine Pryor of Knoxville, Evelyn Hunter of Spartanburg, South Carolina; special uncle, Rev. Don Reynolds of LaFollette; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held March 2 at 2 p.m. at Walters Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Hatfield, Rev. Don Reynolds and Rev. Larry Russell officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Interment will be in Bakers Forge Cemetery.

Ruby Mozingo Smith, age 80 of Knoxville, formerly of LaFollette, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25 at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville. She was born August 7, 1926 in Campbell County.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edd and Etta Goins Mozingo; sister, Cleo McFarland.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry W. and Mary Ellen Smith of Knoxville; grandsons, Gregory Smith & Michael Biggs; grea tgrandsons, Dean Smith, Zackary Wilkinson, Beau Biggs, Brandon Reymond, and Harrison Reymond; granddaughters, Pamela Wilkinson, Kelly Reymond & Husband Eddie Reymond; great granddaughters, Samantha Biggs & Bridget Reymond

Graveside service and interment were at Victory Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Mills officiating. Pallbearers were Greg Smith, Michael Biggs, Zackary Wilkinson & Beau Biggs.

Linda F. (Bozo) Wilson-Jones


Linda F. (Bozo) Wilson-Jones, age 48 departed this life to be with her Jesus Feb. 20 after many long illnesses.

She was a graduate of Campbell County High School Class of 1976.  She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 58.  Linda was the perfect expression of live, laugh and love.  She lived every day of her life to the fullest, with a laughter that will never be forgotten.  Her dearest love was her “miracle son”, Blake and the “precious blessing”, she thought she would never live to have and her grandson Kendrick born January 31, 2007. 

She is preceded in death by mother and daddy Susie and Curtis Mefford, father, Phillip Wilson and niece, Fayleigh Rose Wilson.

She is survived by son, John Blake Wilson and grandson, Kendrick Eugene Wilson of LaFollette; brother, Darrell Wilson of Georgia; sister and husband, Ida and Mike Bowlin of LaFollette; nephews, Jeremy Wilson of Conyers, Georgia, Jordan Allen of LaFollette; niece, Karley Bowlin of LaFollette.  A host of several aunts and uncles; special aunt, Cloretta Carroll; special cousins, Hulana Marlow and Bridgett Nance of Jacksboro, Melissa Wilson of Knoxville, Sandy Asher of LaFollette and special friend, Susan Sims of Jacksboro.

Funeral services were held Feb. 22 at Walters Chapel with Rev. Randy Comer and Rev. Jasper Walden officiating.  Interment was at Bakers Forge Cemetery. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
