Little did they realize the far-reaching impact of their action

Mom and Dad both showed up at school for the performance.

That was a real treat.  They could see their 7-year-old son in his grand one-line role as a pilgrim at the first Thanksgiving Day feast.  We all wore elaborate costumes made with construction paper, scissors, and paste.  Since this play was being performed in the school cafeteria/auditorium, the teacher instructed each of us to slip over to the tall floor microphone to say our lines.

The debate that is raging in America is about truth

Jesus Christ had a very interesting encounter with Pontius Pilate about credibility. Jesus said “Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice” John 18:37. And then Pilate asked, “What is truth?” John 18:38.

Broke and wounded, but better off by far

“It’s football time, in Tennessee!”  John Ward’s enthusiastic announcement sent shivers of excitement down our collective spines every fall as the University of Tennessee cranked up their football machine.  And over the years many a young athlete thrilled us with his unusual running, passing, blocking, or tackling skills.  One such man was quarterback Jimmy Streater.

  • Sixty miles never meant so much

Sometimes there are simply no words.

In my line of work that can present a problem, but this is precisely where I have found myself for more than a week (although my husband is certain to disagree).

Since I returned home from walking 60 plus miles in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure almost two weeks ago I must have started this column over 100 times in my mind, but I kept coming up short.

  • Rallying for Benchmarks

Elk Valley students cranked it up with an academic pep rally before taking their first Benchmark test of the year. Cheers were heard throughout the gymnasium on being prepared, being responsible and being respectful as the Elk Valley cheerleaders led the student body in the academic rally. Students shared skits and posters for great test taking strategies.

It has been a very busy time for the County Mayor’s Office. In addition to the additional county commission meetings that were held to review and approve the county budget, several new employees were sworn in for the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department.
