  • Knowing is half the battle

In the newspaper business it is rarely necessary to go looking for trouble. Instead trouble almost always has a way of finding us.

Whether it’s the latest meth lab, the alleged misconduct of a school system employee or a kid getting left on the bus-those stories always make their way to us.

Under conservative leadership for the first time in history, Tennessee took a strong stand this legislative session by reforming an education system in dire need of change. From The Mountain

    Mark J. Tidwell

I returned to some old stomping grounds recently.  I spent a few days and nights out in the 80,000 acre wilderness known as the Catoosa Wildlife Management Area.  Dozens of adventure filled trips filled my youth in that country. As a teenager, I was privileged to deer hunt, and sit around the campfire with, a whole passel of memorable characters.  Most of these were old timers as we often refer to them. Oh what a wealth of memories I can call upon in my mind’s eye.

      Supertang has come and gone.

While many are attempting to make sense of what happened and who is to blame for the train wreck it became- I want to point out who is not to blame.

In recent weeks I was in communication with Hal Royce, the mastermind behind the event.

Throughout our conversations he kept telling me the “community was not supporting Supertwang.”

Job-creating tort reforms pass the house by wide margin

Legislation that caps non-economic damage awards at $750,000 and at $1 million in cases where victims suffer certain catastrophic injuries was given final approval by the House on Monday.

The bill is a central focus of the majority’s legislative agenda. State Rep. Dennis Powers, a co-sponsor of the bill, believes these reforms will bring stability to the legal environment companies have to account for when considering relocation to Tennessee or doing business here.
