  • LETTER: New flag flying high in Jacksboro

     To the editor:

I’d like to express appreciation to Tom Hatmaker, LaFollette Tree Service for his help. This past week he removed and replaced a damaged and badly soiled U.S. flag at the Shell service station on the four-lane in Jacksboro, just west of LaFollette’s city limits. For some time the flag had been dangling by a single connection on a really tall flag pole in front of the station. In a recent conversation with the business owners, they remarked that they had no idea of who to contact to remove the flag.

  • LETTER: Dump Q&A puzzling

    To the editor:

I attended the public information meeting Sept. 10 concerning the proposed landfill in the Duff community. No commissioners from the 5th district were there.

To my knowledge, the county mayor was not present. Our state representative stayed about 30 minutes.

The audience was allowed to ask questions of the Ketchen Land Company representatives, operators of the dump.

I left the meeting with many unanswered questions.

  • Likes the new look of The Press

     To the editor:

     I read the LaFollette Press!

Several weeks ago I was standing at a checkout at a busy convenience store along our four-lane in town. I glanced to my right and sitting on the newspaper rack, I noticed the store had started to carry an international or fancy national paper.

Much to my surprise, upon closer inspection, I found that the paper was our local LaFollette Press. The look and lay out were attractive and well presented.

I bought a copy and read it cover to cover.

    Lafollette Press,

I would like to thank my county commissioner Marie Ayers for sponsoring me and thecCommissioner’s office for offering the leadership program. It was a blessing to work with the veteran’s affair office and to get to meet so many veterans who serve our country and continue to serve. I made many new friends and learned so much. A special thanks to Kevin, Gwen, Tanya for everything.
