  • Citizen journalist- friend or foe?

I have said before, and I’ll say it again, I take pride in my work.

I knew before I started school that I wanted to be a writer. Majoring in journalism I studied the profession. Years later I am still learning the tricks of the trade.

The problem I have is with some people masquerading as journalists. It has taken me years to understand and implement the Associated Press style of writing, to actively engage the audience in one sentence and to compassionately write heartbreaking stories in a newsworthy tone.

    It’s not easy.

  • Jesus is the reason for the season

     Editor,

    LaFollette Press:

I would like to express how grateful and what it meant to me to see in The LaFollette Press that Jesus is the reason for the season. The poem, Twas the Night before Jesus, is so true and a blessing. Most stores you go in cannot say Merry Christmas. I’m so glad for boldness of people who will stand up and tell others, Christ is Christmas. So thank you again for wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

    Happy Birthday Jesus.

     Editor,

  • Remembering Christmas past

As I decorated my house this year for Christmas I was so thankful because last year it was quite a chore. I was taking chemo and didn’t have a lot of strength. Since April of this year 2010, I have felt better every day.

  • From a Mother's Heart

Do you see the new person in the mirror?

The Bible teaches two great truths about change. The first is that despite the changing world around us, God is changeless and dependable. The second is that God call for an inner change of heart, called repentance that produces an outer change of lifestyle, called obedience.

  • Faithful Words

    Peace for the prepared

“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way; the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight” (Marl 1:1-3, RSV)

Nothing in life is more elusive than peace. Peace is not violent! Peace does not force itself upon us or our relationships.

  • On Higher Ground

Quite a cause for a celebration

Since writing my column last week, the world has undergone a change of cataclysmic proportions—for the better, I might add. For the life of me, I cannot understand the lack of coverage in the news media. None of the major cable outlets carried the story, nor did any major metropolitan newspaper. What were they thinking?

So what happened Wednesday morning Dec. 1 in the wee hours that so affected our future?  This writer became a grandfather!
