DERAILED: Montclair’s fourth...

Two years and four investment groups have failed to put an oil refinery in the former Taylor Machine Shop in Jellico. But Michael Williams, CEO of Montclair Technology, LLC, wants to bring an oil refinery to Campbell County—and by doing so employ up to 50 people. He likes the people in Campbell County, he said, “I’m excited about working with them. They’ve laid out the red carpet for me.”

American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be at Jacksboro Middle School from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday. There will be much to see, hear and eat.
“We do have food (and) entertainment,” said Cyndi Russell, Relay for Life committee co-chair.

Commission renews health...

CAMPBELL COUNTY—The County Commission renewed a policy with Blue Cross Blue Shield for employee health insurance at a six percent cost increase.
Campbell County employees experienced an increase in medical insurance claims, which made it hard to get competitive health insurance quotes, according to Debi Samples.
“Because your claims have gone up so drastically, none of (the) other carriers were willing to quote you this year,” Samples said. “I have no competitive bids to bring you.”

Ball field receives $20,000 for...

Monday night, the Campbell County Commission approved spending $20,000 for additional grade work at a ball field in Jellico.

While the commission awarded the contract two months ago for $55,000, additional grade work was needed in the outfield, which was below the flood plain.

“There was some discrepancy in the engineering,” Jellico Mayor Les Stiers said.

Kristin Chapman only knows winning.

For three straight years in high school, that was all she did, becoming Campbell County’s first three-time state champion.

Following her A-Sun indoor championship earlier in the year, Chapman did the same during the outdoor season, taking first in the high jump for East Tennessee State University.

VanEtten named CCHS golf coach

Campbell County High School has announced Will VanEtten as the new golf coach.

VanEtten, who is a native of Campbell County, takes over the program after Jeremy Cox resigned his position in late 2012.

For the new coach, it’s a chance to help the high school golfers grow.

“I’m really excited about getting started,” VanEtten said. “Our first day of practice is July 8, so I’m definitely counting down the days on it.”

NWTF hosted annual archery...

The early morning rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the competitors on Saturday, May 18th at the Archery Tournament sponsored by the Pine Mountain Longbeard’s Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

The tournament was the first of two archery tournaments that will be held at the Ball Farm Event Center in LaFollette.

Two tournaments are held each year to give local archers the opportunity to sharpen their skills.
