DENNIS THE FILM MENACE: Flicks to keep you in the summer mood

 Summer is here and while most people want to get out in the heat and enjoy playing games or swimming in a pool, a few may decide that the summer’s sweltering temperature is not their style. 

They  may want to watch a movie instead.
Luckily, Netflix gives options for summer movies that keep you in that game-playing, beach-going and adventure-having mood, but keep you indoors.

For kids there is the animated feature, The Adventures of Tintin. 

Shelter could reopen soon after TBI probe

Campbell County Mayor William Baird said on Monday the shuttered Adrion W. Baird Animal Center could reopen within the next few weeks.
The shelter closed April 11 after a viral Internet video surfaced alleging several malpractices there.
Baird is awaiting findings from a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation report before reopening the center. The county mayor’s office doesn’t know if criminal charges will filed, but administrative decisions about the center will only be made after the TBI report is finalized.

Column: Leave the cell phones behind

It’s been said time and time again.
“Kids are too wrapped up in their video games, and they need to get outside.”
However, should that adage be just for kids?
This past weekend, I went camping at Fall Creek Falls.
Camping in a tent under the stars, smelling themountain air and above all, having no cell phone service.
A weekend without cell phone distraction, Facebook and Twitter.
To say the least, it was way better than most people would think.
To me, getting outside is something that is relaxing.

Pinecone Birdfeeders

Cove Lake State Park will be hosting an event for its “A Summer of Fun” program. At 10 a.m., Nicholas Scarborough will be hosting an event to create pinecone birdfeeders. Participants can take the feeders home to see what shows up. Meet at the mound shelter in the campground.

 

Campbell County Basketball

CCHS basketball hosting games tonight, June 6

The Campbell County High School basketball team will be hosting two games tonight, Thursday, beginning at 4 p.m.

Both Clinton and Knott County Central High School (Ky.) will be participating in the pre-season scrimmages.

Clinton and Knott County will start things off at 4 p.m., as Campbell County will take on Clinton directly after.

Knott County will play Campbell County following the District 3-AAA rematch of last season’s close games.

NICKAJACK LAKE, CHATTANOOGA - Chris Shouse and Dakota Kirk’s day at the Student Anglers Federation’s Tennessee High School State Tournament didn’t go quite as planned.

With weather being the biggest threat at the tournament, original ideas changed for many of the anglers in the 70-boat tournament.

For Shouse and Kirk, the story was no different.
