Sharp sentenced to 25 years for...

 Michael Todd Sharp will spend the next 25 years behind bars after entering his guilty plea in Campbell County criminal court on Monday. 

In March 2012, the LaFollette Police Department got a tip that Sharp, 35, was living at the Village Apartments. Police reportedly found him there with a minor and his then-girlfriend. The encounter was an automatic violation of the terms of the sexual offender registry because he was living at a home other than where he was registered.

Mother-daughter duo arrested...

A Jacksboro mother and her adult daughter are behind bars after police say they went around Campbell County soliciting donations in the name of Jacksboro Middle School.

Catherine Agee, 61, and Jennifer Overton, 34, allegedly went to local businesses and citizens to ask for money to help with a school fundraier. The two women reportedly asked that checks be written directly to them without the permission and knowledge of the school. 

What are the most dangerous...

 There’s a back up on the highway again, and it’s in the dead spot where the radio doesn’t come in quite right. The next exit is a mile away, and the shoulder of the road is clogged with drivers trying to get out of the jam.  Semi trucks’ air brakes sigh as the monstrous vehicles grind to a halt. Other drivers give up and place their vehicles in park – or just shut them completely off. 

It’s going to be a while.

US 25 Yard Sale runs Thursday...

 Thousands of bargain seekers are expected to descend along parts of US 25 today through Sunday, as the historic highway plays host to a nearly 250-mile yard sale. The event spans from the Ohio/Kentucky border through East Tennessee and hits several local sites along the way.  

It’s the second annual event, but the first time Campbell County has participated, said E.L. Morton, executive director for the Chamber of Commerce, who’s been coordinating with business leaders and other officials on the interstate commerce event.

The Campbell County Sheriff's Department is investigating an arson last night in the Duff community.

Two suspects are at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center after the incident.

CCSD describes the investigation as "fluid and ongoing."

Hit-and-run leads to hour-long...

 Four law enforcement agencies responded after a LaFollette man allegedly fled from a hit-and-run accident on Monday afternoon.

David Norris, 41, 869 Glade Springs Rd., LaFollette, allegedly hit another vehicle in front of the Quik Stop BBQ Market & Deli in Caryville. He then fled the area on foot. 

The Campbell County Sheriff’s Department, Jacksboro Police Department, Caryville Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol all responded to the area to begin the manhunt after a “be on the lookout” advisory was issued.

Lawsuit claims bankrupt town...

A Clinton excavating company is sueing the town of Jellico for more than $80,000, after it said the town failed to render payment for services performed.
In the three-page complaint filed May 28 in Campbell County Chancery Court, Cozy Excavation & Contracting, LLC claimed it was hired to make improvements to the water treatment facility. The work was completed, according to the suit.

NEXAFED could be remedy in fight...

 A new allergy drug might be the key to curbing meth abuse in Campbell County. 

Monday night, District Attorney General Lori Phillips-Jones spoke to the Campbell County Anti-Drug Coalition about Nexafed—a decongestant that has been on the market since the end of last year. 

Nexafed is an alternative to Sudafed, but is produced in a way that makes it harder to be used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. 

Bardos buy Twin Cove Marina in $...

 CARYVILLE—Norris Dam Marina owner Mark Bardo and son Brad Bardo have finalized a $2.3 million deal to acquire bankrupted Twin Cove Marina from its bank owner. The deal —reached on May 31—includes the marina’s 140 boat slips, a full-service restaurant and approximately five acres where the Bardos eventually hope to develop four eight-unit condos. The two-bedroom floor plans could tentatively list for $220-$280,000, son Brad told the LaFollette Press on Monday. 

Lake homeowners left in limbo...

County Attorney Joe Coker is looking for a group that wants to benefit the community, but needs a home.
During a workshop, Coker told county commissioners about a homeowner who had almost completed a lakefront house near Flat Hollow Marina before it was determined the surrounding land belonged to the Tennessee Valley Authority. The homeowner had gotten a survey and paid taxes for the property. It showed the house was located on the homeowner’s property, Coker said.
