  • Dixie Youth Baseball League being organized countywide
    After decades of running their own summer baseball leagues, the city of LaFollette and the town of Caryville are combining forces to build a countywide program. Prospective coaches got a chance to meet organizers and board members of the newly formed Campbell County Dixie Youth Baseball League during a Sunday afternoon get-together at the CCHS Baseball Field House. “I’d like to make our program a countywide program,” CCHS baseball coach Brad Collette said when addressing the coaches in attendance.
  • Co-ed volleyball tourney set for Jellico
    The Jellico High School softball team will hold a co-ed volleyball tournament Feb. 3-4 as a fundraiser. The event will be hosted by Jellico High School. Games will begin on Friday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $30 per team of six players. There must be two females on the court at all times for each team.   • Youth Baseball coaches will meet Jan. 29
    Anyone interested in coaching youth baseball or softball in LaFollette, Jacksboro, Caryville or Jellico is invited to a coaches meeting on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. at the Campbell County High School Baseball field house.   • Little League football banquet set
    A football banquet for Cougar Little League football players, coaches and cheerleaders will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 at Valley View Elementary School. Football players need to return all equipment and uniforms. Players will be able to purchase their jersey for $10 cash. Following dinner, trophies will be awarded.
  • Wynn to host 3-on-3 tourney
    A men’s 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Wynn School. Games will begin at 9 a.m. Concessions will be available. For more info or to enter a team, call Don England at 784-2645 and leave a message.

  • Campbell County girls selected to roster of Phoenix Rising volleyball
    The Campbell County High School Athletic Department would like to congratulate volleyball players Carrie Brogan and Temre’ Taylor for their accomplishment of making the Phoenix Rising Volleyball roster. Phoenix Rising Volleyball is a competitive volleyball travel club for both girls and boys.  Based in Knoxville, Phoenix Rising is one of the most successful clubs in the Southeast, winning multiple tournaments across the region.  The club was recently featured on the news for its competitiveness and accomplishments. 
  • Looking back at the first six months of sports in 2011
    From basketball to track and field, 2011 was a year of championships and top performances for Campbell County athletes. The following is a month-by-month recap of the top stories in the sports section of the LaFollette Press. January The Jacksboro Middle School boys’ basketball team took 1st place in the Halls High School New Year Tournament. Campbell County High School’s varsity girls took 5th place in Kesslers Holiday Classic at Webb School of Knoxville.
  • Tri-City Tournament set
    The Tri-City Basketball League will host a tournament for age 5 through high school divisions from Dec. 16-18 at the LaFollette Recreation Center. The entry fee is $25 per team.  If any team from the LaFollette Recreation Center wants to play in the league, the director will try and work around the game times at the Rec.  Sign-ups will be Dec. 17 at Valley View from 1-4 p.m.  For more information about the tournament or league play, call 423-566-1400 or 423-912-5927.
  • Gaylor is moving up motocross ranks
    Sixteen-year-old Clay Gaylor has made the most of his short time as an All-Terrain Vehicle racer. Less than two years after giving up golf, baseball and basketball for racing, the Campbell County High School junior is winner of a Thor Mega Series Amateur B Class Championship. Gaylor took 1st place in the points series, which included races in Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama and Georgia. He won all his races, except one in which he finished second. Gaylor is five years younger than most of his competitors.
